UUM FORGES STRONGER ACADEMIC TIES WITH UZBEKISTAN THROUGH MOU AND FIVE LETTERS OF INTENT
TANJUNG MALIM, 5 February 2025– Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has expanded its academic collaboration with six educational institutions in Uzbekistan through the formalisation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and five Letters of Intent (LOIs).
This strategic initiative aims to strengthen international academic relations, particularly in the fields of finance, banking, entrepreneurship, and higher education.
The LOI signed with the Banking and Finance Academy (BFA) aims to establish postgraduate programmes in finance and banking, encompassing the areas of International Accounting, Taxation, Risk Management, and Islamic Finance and Banking.
Meanwhile, the MoU with Termez State University (TerSU) seeks to facilitate the establishment of an offshore academic centre in the Surkhandarya Region, which will provide international accredited programmes with quality assurance in accordance with AACSB standards.
Additionally, the LoI with Namangan State University focuses on the establishment of an entrepreneurship centre, which will serve as a training and research hub aimed at enhancing the field of entrepreneurship within the Namangan Region.
Next, the LOI signed with Navoi State University is intended to promote the development of collaborative academic programmes in the fields of economics, management, and financial technology while also facilitating knowledge transfer and research initiatives.
This collaboration is anticipated to bring about significant benefits for both countries by enhancing the quality of higher education, promoting knowledge exchange, and fostering the development of skilled workforce in relevant fields.
Through today’s programme, UUM will undoubtedly solidify its position as an internationally recognised educational institution that opens up more opportunities for global cooperation.
‘We are optimistic that within 12-month timeframe, this signed LoI agreement can be successfully transitioned into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), paving the way for the effective implementation of the agreed programme and bringing about beneficial outcomes for the education and economic sectors of both countries,’ said UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan.
The LoI signing ceremony was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia, along with the academic leaders from Uzbekistan.
Both parties expressed hope that the agreements will be further strengthened through the successful implementation of the proposed programme in the near future.
Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) had the honour of hosting the First Malaysia – Uzbekistan Higher Education Forum, held at the Chancellor’s Hall, Sultan Azlan Shah Campus, Proton City.
The opening ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir.
Also present to deliver a speech was the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Uzbekistan, The Hon. Konratbay Sharipov.
