UUM Sintok mineral water helps boost the university’s revenue

SINTOK: “Fresh and natural Sintok mineral water”, the tagline of UUM Sintok Mineral Water is set to become a significant source of revenue for Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, mentioned that the Business Development and Strategic Department (BSD) has taken a significant initiative to conserve and generate the university’s funds.

According to him, this effort not only yields financial benefits but also showcases the university’s commitment to innovation and excellence in resource management.

He stated that UUM has successfully recorded the highest revenue generation among non-research universities during the first six months of this year, achieving a 35 percent increase.

“In addition to tuition fees, UUM also generates income through the effective efforts of BSD.

“Congratulations to BSD for successfully collecting nearly RM 1.2 million in debt within the first six months, contributing to UUM’s efforts to expand its business ventures under BSD,” he said during the launch of UUM Sintok Mineral Water at the Manager’s Coffee.

He also expressed his confidence that discussions for long-term projects will take place to ensure the university’s financial sustainability.

He added that the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has also encouraged universities to increase their annual revenue by more than 20 percent.

“UUM has successfully achieved 35 percent of revenue providing the university with the opportunity to plan and implement more robust and solid financial strategies for the future,” he said.

In line with this, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan also expressed hope that all schools and centres of authority will continue to support BSD in generating the university’s income.

Meanwhile, Director of BSD, Dr Afiruddin Tapa said that this initiative marks a significant milestone in BSD’s ongoing efforts to generate revenue for the university and strengthen UUM’s brand in the local market.

According to him, with the introduction of this product, UUM not only offers a quality and refreshing beverage, but also brings the prestigious name of UUM to consumers across the country.

He mentioned that BSD offers UUM mineral water in convenient 500ml bottles, designed to meet the needs of students, staff and the wider community. BSD also plans to introduce a 350ml version to cater to various needs and preferences.

“In line with our commitment to environmental sustainability, we are actively exploring innovative packaging solutions that will reduce reliance on plastic bottles.

“This initiative reflects our dedication to supporting green practices and making a positive impact on the planet,” he said.

Also present at the event were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed and senior university officials.
