SINTOK – Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has welcomed 4,195 new students, comprising both local and international individuals, who will be pursuing 48 undergraduate programmmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, stated that out of the total, 4,061 are local students who have completed their Malaysian Higher School Certificate (Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM)), Diplomas, Matriculation, UUM Foundation Studies in Management, and the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia(STAM). Meanwhile, 134 students are international students.
“This intake consists of 2,977 female students and 1,218 male students.
“The Bachelor of Accounting programme has the highest number of enrolments with 315 students, followed by the Bachelor of Business Administration (236), Bachelor of Economics (231), and Bachelor of Finance with Honors (171),” he said at a press conference held at the UUM Gallery.
The Bachelor of Accounting programme continues to maintain a CGPA entry requirement of 4.00 for students who have completed STPM/Matriculation.
As in previous years, UUM has also offered places to 13 students with disabilities (OKU) from various categories, as well as to students from the indigenous Orang Asli community and athletes.
As of 1 October 2024, the total enrolment at UUM stands at 30,149, comprising 24,671 at the undergraduate level and 5,478 pursuing postgraduate studies.
Ms. Salina d/o Awang, expressed her excitement about furthering her studies and her desire to set a good example for her peers back in Pekan, Pahang.
“I am very grateful for this achievement, as there are not many Orang Asli students who make it to university. There are only a handful of us; I may be the fifth from my village,” she said.
Therefore, Ms. Salina aspires to see more Orang Asli students pursue higher education and achieve professional success, which ultimately shaping a brighter future for their community.
Her father’s advice resonates deeply with her—to always take care of herself, be independent, and study diligently in pursuit of her dream to become a teacher.
“Most importantly, I want to focus on my studies and take full advantage of the opportunities available to me, so I can repay my parents’ sacrifices through academic excellence,” she added
