UUM to Confer Degrees to 6,742 Graduands at the 37th Convocation Ceremony
ALOR SETAR, 6 November: A total of 6,742 graduands will receive their respective degrees across nine sessions during the 37th Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to take place from 10 to 14 November at Dewan Mu’adzam Shah, UUM.
His Royal Highness Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, the Chancellor, has graciously consented to officiate the first session and confer degrees at this convocation ceremony.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, stated that among the total of 6,742 graduands, 5,539 have earned undergraduate degrees, while 1,126 have completed postgraduate degrees, including Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Management, Doctor of Business Administration, and Master’s degrees. Additionally, the remaining 77 graduands will be awarded Executive Diplomas.
According to him, this convocation ceremony will feature a total of 6,330 local graduands, alongside 412 international graduands hailing from 24 countries, including Indonesia (151), China (55), Somalia (31), Saudi Arabia (29), and Palestine (6).
The Royal Education Award will be presented to Mr. Muhammad Shuib Rosli (Bachelor of Philosophy, Law and Business with Honours) and Ms. Emina Kulasic Bong Ei Min (Bachelor of International Affairs Management with Honours), while the Chancellor’s Gold Medal will be awarded to Ms. Nur Eina Athirah Norazman (Bachelor of Human Resource Management with Honours).
The recipients of the Royal Education Award will receive RM 7,500.00 in cash along with a certificate, while the recipient of the Chancellor’s Gold Medal will receive RM 4,000.00 in cash accompanied by a certificate.
Additionally, among the 5,539 bachelor’s degree graduands, an impressive 1,681 achieved first-class honours.
UUM will also celebrate the graduation of its first cohort, consisting of 30 graduands from three new programmes, namely Bachelor of Business Administration (Golf Management) with Honours (21), Master of Science (Operations and Analytics Research) (8), and Doctor of Education (1).
Furthermore, alongside the Convocation Ceremony, UUM is also proud to present the Convocation Fair, PESKON37, taking place from 8 to 16 November and aptly themed “Gemilang Alumni.”
Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan stated that during PESKON37, visitors will have the opportunity to gain new experiences and insights through a variety of exhibitions, workshops, forums, and interactive activities. These will encompass diverse fields, including Financial Literacy and Technology, Sports and Recreation, as well as Career and Entrepreneurship.
He further noted that PESKON37 will feature a unique theme each day, allowing visitors and students to explore topics within each programme presented.
“The initiative seeks to inspire visitors to fully engage in each workshop, forum, and interactive activity, enhancing their knowledge in areas of personal interest.
“In addition, PESKON37 will also be enlivened with captivating performances by popular guest artists, including Faizal Tahir, Ameng Spring, Wany Hasrita, Insomniacks, Ismail Izzani, SonaOne, Aiman Tino, among others,” he said.
The organisers have also created numerous business opportunities, featuring 33 student traders, eight food truck vendors, and an additional 96 sales tents accommodating external traders, all designed to support the marketing of entrepreneurs’ products in this vibrant setting. This initiative enables UUM students to hone their entrepreneurial and leadership skills.
