Graduates Must Acquire New knowledge and Benefit the Society

SINTOK, 13 November 2024: Graduates of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) have been urged to acquire new knowledge in order to benefit the surrounding community.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, said that all graduates should maintain a positive outlook and consistently contribute to those around them in order to achieve success.

According to him, success is measured by an individual’s happiness, emphasising that others often envy those who seem content and at peace. Therefore, calmness and happiness are qualities that many aspire to achieve.

He said that these happy and calm people are likely among those who feel fulfilled and grateful for their accomplishments. It is possible that these people have a greater positive impact on those around them than individuals whose success is solely on material wealth.

“Do not think that we are better than others in life because we cannot predict how our accomplishments will benefit the people around us. The achievements of those around us should inspire us to always strive hard to pursue our own aspirations while also contributing positively to the lives of others.

“I invite fellow graduands to take a moment to reflect on your journey as pupils and students who were sent by their parents to educational institutions to acquire knowledge from an early age. The process of transferring complicated topics from a teacher to students is challenging; however, teachers consistently strive to impart their knowledge to their students effectively.

“When you studied at UUM, similar instances occurred. The approach taken is determined by each individual. The important thing is that the knowledge can be transferred, shared, and then understood by all the students taught by the lecturer,” he said at the sixth session of the 37th Convocation Ceremony held at Mu’adzam Shah Hall this morning.

He said that similarly, in the context of knowledge transfer and sharing through studies that have been conducted and are currently ongoing, the approach is indeed diverse in its forms. In addition to the conventional approach, it is essential to incorporate modern technology such as artificial intelligence (Artificial Intelligence) or better known as AI.

He urged that graduands to pursue further education in emerging sciences involving the latest technology, such as AI even after successfully obtaining their degrees. By acquiring the latest knowledge and utilising modern technology, graduates can stay competitive.

“Remember, the best people are the ones who benefit others the most,” he said.

This morning, a total of 888 graduates were conferred their respective bachelor’s degrees by the Vice-Chancellor.
