HIMPU 2025 Celebrates Excellence and Innovation at UUM

SINTOK, 26 May 2025: The Innovation Day and University Awards Ceremony (HIMPU) 2025 celebrated the achievements of 191 university staff members, presenting them with the Excellent Service Award (APC) for their outstanding performance, unwavering commitment, and dedication for the year 2024.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan said that competence serves as a global benchmark that demands creative capabilities that are not only novel, unique and beneficial but also function as a catalyst for advanced thinking, creativity and innovation.

“I sincerely hope that these abilities will continue to be nurtured and adopted as part of our daily work culture.

“Therefore, to all members of the UUM community, do not be complacent with your current skills. Instead, seek out new experiences and continuously strive to grow,” he said during his welcoming speech at HIMPU 2025 at Mu’adzam Shah Hall, this morning.

HIMPU 2025 was officiated by the Chairman of the UUM Board of Directors, Tan Sri Datuk Wira Dr. Mohd Shukor Mahfar.

Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan also reminded attendees that as members of a leading knowledge institution, UUM denizens must be firmly rooted in core values.

According to him, the university’s enduring motto – Knowledge, Virtue, Service – originally envisioned by previous leadership, as a guiding principle that should evolve into meaningful and holistic practice, thus contributing to the development of a first-class culture.

“UUM’s motto is not merely rhetoric. It is built based on the principles of humanity that enrich human life as these three words are intricately related. Without knowledge, true kindness and service cannot be practiced effectively.

And without kindness and service, knowledge loses its purpose and value, which in turn fails to provide any advantage to individuals or society. Thus, the conduct of UUM staff must be revitalised and thoroughly transformed to fully realise the mission and vision of UUM.

“The achievements achieved today signify that we have established a new standard, one that embodies excellence in service, while also fostering a work environment characterised by integrity and productivity,” he said.

He described the historic ceremony as more than just an annual event, but also as a platform to honour the hard work, determination and dedication of staff and inspire a more progressive and forward-thinking innovation culture across the university.

“I extend my sincere congratulations to all recipients. HIMPU 2025 serves as a platform to recognize your hard work and perseverance in your respective fields,” he said.
