Students Must Master Financial and Technological Literacy in Life and Business
SINTOK, 11 November 2024: Financial literacy and technological mastery are two essential components that graduates need to possess in order to enhance their self-worth in the job market while propelling the national economy forward.
The Managing Director of the Lov Penang Hotel, Dato’ Sharifah Shareen Syed Rahman Al-Mashoor, who is also a UUM alumna from the Class of 2002, emphasised that in today’s increasingly competitive and complex world, financial literacy embodies the ability to understand and apply financial principles both in life and business.
According to her, in the today’s fast-paced business landscape, this understanding is crucial for making informed decisions regarding managing personal and business finances.
He said that programmes like the convocation fair represent an important step in creating an educational platform that aligns with the contemporary needs and demands of today.
“PESKON 37 highlights the theme of ‘Financial and Technological Literacy’ as the basis for enhancing the marketability of graduates within the industry.
“Unfortunately, the current state of financial literacy within our society remains low, and this significantly affects the overall stability of the economy as a whole. Weaknesses in financial management affect not just individuals, but also impact the entire economic ecosystem,” she said at the launching of the 37th Convocation Fair at the Main Stage at grounds of the ROTU marching grounds last night.
He stated that, in confronting this challenge, technology has surfaced as a powerful tool with immense potential. The advancement of digital technology has granted society broader access to financial information and a wealth of online educational resources.
According to her, it is important for society to promote financial education from an early stage. This is a long-term investment for the economy and community well-being in the face of an increasingly complicated financial and business world.
She stated that, in this digital age, cyber threats like online fraud and global economic uncertainty are challenges that must be addressed with prudence. Graduates need to be educated on how to safeguard themselves against these risks while promoting safe and ethical financial practices.
“It is essential that we take proactive measures to enhance financial literacy and master technology with utmost responsibility.
Let’s support initiatives that promote financial education, entrepreneurship, and the ethical use of technology,” she said.
In the meantime, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan announced that the theme for this year’s PESKON is Financial Literacy and Technology, reflecting the contemporary global landscape.
