UUM Denizens Urged to Uphold Momentum, Improve Performance Excellence

SINTOK: The denizens of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) have been urged to consistently maintain the momentum of their performance and make continuous efforts to ensure the sustainability of the university’s development.

The Deputy Secretary General (Policy), Ministry of Higher Education, Dato’ Dr Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian, stated that earning the excellence award is a recognition of the recipient’s dedication and exceptional performance, which in turn inspires other colleagues to collaborate to enhance performance and foster a culture of excellence.

Dr Megat Sany, who is performing the duties of the Chairman of the UUM Board of Directors, urged the denizens of UUM to anticipate and generate new opportunities and avenues for achieving greater results. This will ensure that UUM remains progressive and dynamic in tandem with mainstream development.

Therefore, he reminded the denizens of UUM to embrace the shared values, which are essential for civil servants to possess. These values include being professional and competent in fulfilling their responsibilities; being responsive in terms of effective communication while delivering information to the public; maintaining integrity and accountability while performing assigned tasks; fostering the spirit of teamwork; and finally, innovating to generate greater and more effective output.

“Everyone of us has the responsibility to practice these principles and enhance our knowledge, empower our skills, and foster innovation and creativity.

“Let us commit to consistently deliver the highest quality of service through our exemplary cultural practices, trust, and integrity. Together let us mobilise our energy to become exceptional UUM denizens, ensuring that UUM is not only on the national stage but on a global level,” he said at the University Innovation Day and Awards Ceremony (HIMPU) 2024 at the Sri Angsana Hall, EDC-UUM yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, said a total of 344 UUM staff had demonstrated exceptional work performance throughout 2023.

The list of recipients comprised 217 individuals who received the Excellent Service Award (APC); 14 individuals who received the Outstanding Staff Award; 67 individuals who received the Service Excellence Award (AKB); 11 individuals who received the Loyalty Award (ATS) and 35 individuals who received awards for research, publication, teaching and learning, innovation, and quality (APIQ).

According to him, the award serves as an affirmation that UUM highly values exceptional quality and commendable performance.

“This is an expression of appreciation by the university to all those who have demonstrated dedication, discipline, and seriousness in fulfilling the entrusted responsibilities.

“It is anticipated that everyone will give their utmost effort and collaborate towards enhancing excellence in their respective services for the benefit of the university, nation, religion, and country,” he said.

During the ceremony, a cheque from Rock Herbs Industry Sdn Bhd amounting to RM40,000 was presented to UUM as a result of the commercialisation of innovative products Gac Eye Essence and Gac Health Juice by Assoc. Prof. Dr Risyawati Mohamed Ismail from the School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML).
