SINTOK: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has been listed among the top 100 universities in Asia in the list released by the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2023 at 9 p.m. on Thursday night (local time).

In three years since the year 2021, UUM has achieved a notable advancement of 56 positions, placing itself within the top 100 universities in Asia.

This year, UUM has ascended to the 99th position from its previous ranking of 148th in the preceding year and 155th in the year 2021.

UUM has been ranked alongside three other foreign universities, namely Jazan University, Saudi Arabia; University of International Business and Economics, China and Cankaya University, Turkiye.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan the leap of 56 positions can be attributed to the collective efforts and dedication of the university denizens towards establishing UUM as the Eminent Management University and realising the objectives of the UUM Strategic Plan.

According to him, the management of the university expressed gratitude towards everyone who contributed to the establishment of a remarkable legacy for UUM, with particular emphasis on the former Vice-Chancellors, Deputy Vice-Chancellors and the entire UUM campus community.

“UUM’s inclusion in the list of the 100 best universities in Asia provides the university with an opportunity to move forward and further expand its network nationally and internationally.

“This success would not have been possible without the substantial support from the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) which has been instrumental in enabling UUM to persistently pursue its vision and mission,” he said.

UUM’s notable leap can be attributed to a rise in citation impact.

The Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings, released annually, included a comprehensive listing of 669 universities throughout Asia for the 2023 ranking.
