ACEH: In its ongoing mission to establish itself as a premier graduate school of business in Malaysia, OYAGSB (Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business) is dedicated to not only enhancing the quality of education and services for its students, but also prioritising corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Demonstrating its dedication to community engagement, OYAGSB has recently initiated a notable collaboration with INASIS BSN. This partnership has resulted in the establishment of the Student Mobility programme for the year 2023, which aims to inspire and empower students.
This initiative saw OYAGSB sponsor the establishment of a mini-reading section at the Fajar Hidayah School in Aceh. The Fajar Hidayah Aceh School, initially founded in 2007, provided full scholarships to students who were survivors of the catastrophic 2004 Tsunami in Aceh. Since its inception, the school has evolved. It underwent a transformation and now operates as an established primary school, providing full scholarships exclusively to students who are orphaned or come from underprivileged backgrounds.

Recognizing the importance of nurturing a reading culture among students, OYAGSB responded to the school’s request by sponsoring the establishment of this mini-reading room. The response from the school and its students was nothing short of enthusiastic and appreciative.
Bapak Haikal, the Head of the School, expressed, “It’s not the monetary value in millions of rupiahs that we value, but rather the contribution and concern shown by UUM (Universiti Utara Malaysia) and Malaysia. This heartfelt support has deeply touched the hearts of the school’s management. This collaboration will be cherished and upheld for the long term.”
The programme commenced with an activity called ‘Mastering English for Future‘. This activity was specifically designed to boost students’ confidence in communicating in English. Approximately 35 students eagerly participated in this activity, displaying enthusiasm to learn English for everyday use.

During the afternoon session, students from both the Fajar Hidayah School and UUM joined forces to prepare the reading room.
Miss Rozita Ramli, on behalf of Prof. Hassan Abu Bakar, the Dean of OYAGSB, presented the symbolic plaque during the inauguration of the reading room to Mr. Haikal, the Principal of Fajar Hidayah School.
This heartfelt initiative drew participation from 15 students of INASIS BSN and involved a joint programme with students from the Islamic University Negeri Ar-Raniry, Banda Aceh. With a focus on fostering a love for reading and enhancing English proficiency, OYAGSB’s ‘Empowering Communities Through Reading Initiative’ has the potential to make a long-lasting, positive impact in the community.
