BUKIT KACHI, 11 March – As part of a unique way of demonstrating corporate compassion, the Cooperative and Entrepreneurship Development Institute (CEDI) at Universiti Utara Malaysia conducted a charity programme focused on mental health on 5 March at Surau Batu Sungai, Bukit Kachi.

The day began with a rejuvenating de-stressing session, followed by a delightful barbecue, which helped to foster a sense of camaraderie among the diligent CEDI staff.

Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohd Nizho Abdul Rahman enhanced the experience by delivering an insightful online Pre-Ramadhan Tazkirah, setting the stage for reflection and spiritual readiness.

The main focus of the event was the official launch of “Projek Telekung Ramadhan,” a joint initiative between CEDI and the School of Languages, Civilisations & Philosophy (SLCP) Spirituality and Recreation Committee. This charitable initiative seeks to gather both pre-loved and new telekungs for donation and distribution to secluded musollas and small musollas located at the Rest and Service Areas (RNR) along the highway.

The insightful hadith “the upper hand is better than the lower hand” is an integral part of the project. This prophetic statement highlights the virtue of giving generously and underlines the ethical ethos guiding the project. By integrating such principles, CEDI ensures that “Projek Telekung Ramadhan” is not merely an act of charity but a thoughtful embodiment of Islamic values.

“In the tapestry of our lives, the threads of generosity, kindness, and unity create a fabric that warms not only the receiver but also the giver. Through this initiative, we weave a story of empathy, dignity, and the timeless essence of coming together for a purpose greater than ourselves,” said the Executive Director of CEDI, Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohd Sobri Don @ A. Wahab.

He also emphasised that the significance of the contribution lies not in the quantity, but rather in the amount of affection and sincerity people invest in their act of giving. He also expressed hope that the endeavour would also motivate others to fully appreciate the beauty of shared humanity and illuminate the path towards a more compassionate society.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohd Sobri Don @ A. Wahab, the “Projek Telekung Ramadhan” is not just a charitable act but a testament to the enduring power of collective goodwill and the transformative nature of simple gestures.

Phase 1 of the project witnessed a remarkable response, with a total of 60 pairs of telekung sets already pledged. The project leaders, Mr. Muhammad Khairul Amri (CEDI), Puan Intan Noor Hasliza (CEDI), and Puan Roshita Che Ani (SLCP), eagerly anticipate the second phase of the project, which will take place during Ramadan. They also urge potential donors to participate and contribute.

To contribute to “Projek Telekung Ramadhan” and embody the spirit of giving, interested donors are invited to contact the esteemed members of the project.

In its entirety, the initiative showcases CEDI’s commitment to social responsibility, by seamlessly integrating professionalism and philanthropy in a manner that transcends traditional boundaries and enriches the lives of those less fortunate.
