KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian renowned education figure, Professor Datuk Dr. Sidek Baba, 76, passed away on 25 November.

His son, Izzudin confirmed the death of his father at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) through a post on Facebook.

His father’s body was located at UMMC for Covid-19 verification and buried at Tanah Perkuburan Islam Radhatul Sakinah, Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (26 Nov).

The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) also confirmed the death of Dr. Sidek through their Facebook posting.

Sidek was born in 1946 at Kampung Pulau, Masjid Tanah, Melaka.

He made a lot of contributions to the Malaysian Muslim community by publishing books and articles. He was the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) Deputy Rector (Student Development Affairs) from 1994 and 2002.

The 10th Malaysian Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim also was one of his associates in the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM).

In 2009 he was awarded the National Maulidur Rasul Perdana Award 2009.

A year after that in 2010 he became a Member of the National Education Advisors’ Council.
