ISLAMABAD [PAKISTAN]: On January 15, 2023, in the middle of the night, five militants belonging to TTP (Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan) targeted the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the Sarbang police station in Peshawar district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
It was a TTP gun attack in which DSP Sardar Hussain and his gunmen, Irshad Khan and Jahanzeb, embraced martyrdom.
During a firefight between militants and police, two attackers were killed on the spot, while three others fled into the darkness of midnight, according to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
In the darkness of night, militants used advanced equipment and came up with a coordinated assault attack.
“Unfortunately, in return, the Pakistani police didn’t have the resources to counter the attack against militants, and DSP, along with two other constables, fell victim to their assault,” Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police IG Moazzam Jah Ansari told reporters.
He claimed that night vision of modern style and advanced gadgets, such as sniper rifles, longitude binoculars, and thermal weapons sights, was used to shoot down police officers.
Moreover, he demanded the provincial government release the budget for modern equipment in order to stand against the terrorist attacks at night as well.
TTP committed to carrying out attacks across the country after breaking their peace agreement with Pakistan Security Forces, who believed that their demands were not met.
Till now, TTP has been responsible for successful suicide, assault, and gun attacks in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Waziristan.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, strongly condemned the terrorist attack and expressed grief and sorrow over the deaths of police officials. [DAWN NEWS]
