SINTOK – The Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has given approval for the establishment of the Hajj Research and Innovation Institute, as proposed by the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Islamic Business School (IBS).
The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TH, Tuan Syed Hamadah Syed Othman, expressed TH’s eagerness to collaborate with UUM during a meeting with UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan at his office in the TH building, held on 11 September.
According to Prof. Dr Mohd Foad, UUM plans to establish an institute that will serve as a Centre of Excellence.
This institute will be placed under IBS and will also collaborate with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM).
On Sunday, 17 September, UUM Vice-Chancellor held a discussion regarding matters and cooperation with the TH Board of the Northern Region. The discussion was led by its Director, Datuk Mohammad Mokhzani Mukhtar.
According to Datuk Mohammad Mokhzani, the courtesy visit to Prof. Dr Mohd Foad has facilitated the creation of opportunities and a conducive platform for collaborative endeavours between TH and UUM.
He said, during the discussions held, several approaches were explored and discussed upon in relation to TH’s 60th celebration.
During the discussion, TH will collaborate with UUM to deploy a group university student as volunteers. These volunteers will assist the departing hajj pilgrims at the airport terminal.
“It is anticipated that this newly established partnership between TH and UUM will enhance the festivities surrounding TH’s upcoming 60th anniversary celebration, which will be celebrated this year,” he said.
In the meantime, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad mentioned that this collaboration will offer educators and students of this campus the opportunity to provide their perspectives and suggestions to TH.
Additionally, campus denizens will have the opportunity to gather information regarding the process of becoming TH depositors.
The courtesy visit was also attended by Director of Kedah State TH, Tn. Haji Mohd Hanifah Kamarudin; Head of Marketing, Mr. Abdullah Fahmi Shaari together with the Dean of the Islamic Business School (IBS), Prof. Dr Rosylin Mohd Yusof.
