Public University Golf Tournament Boosts Skills, Fosters Core Values

SINTOK: The Malaysia Public University (PU) Golf Tournament serves as more than a mere venue for ability assessment but also a platform for reinforcing the core values of each participant.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, said that the tournament enhances the sense of belonging, reinforces the values of unity such as cooperation and tolerance, and fosters a strong spirit of sportsmanship.

According to him, the experience acquired at the tournament will greatly assist all participants in establishing networking and communication channels among public university communities.

In addition, he said, a total of 268 players demonstrated their array of talents and skills, with 89 participants in the Gross and Nett categories competing at the Sultan Sallehuddin Golf Club (KGSS) Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).

“A total of 106 players participated at Darulaman Golf & Country Club (DGCC) in Jitra for the VVIP and Invitation categories, while 73 Nett and Invitation category players competed at Cinta Sayang Golf and Country Resort, Sungai Petani.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to all the sponsors, particularly UUM Holdings, for serving as the principal sponsor of this tournament, thus enhancing the celebration of UUM’s 40th anniversary and the Visit UUM Year 2024,” he said at the dinner banquet in conjunction with the 51st. Malaysia PU Golf Tournament held at the EDC UUM on Saturday.

Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan expressed hope that the 51st. Malaysia PU University Golf Tournament will provide significant experience for all participants, foster friendships, promote collaboration, and cultivate a more interconnected network among universities.

The 51st. Malaysia PU Golf Tournament, which commenced on Saturday and spanned two days, also witnessed the presentation of a RM30,000 cheque from UUM Holdings.

Also present at the event were Deputy Secretary General (Management and Development) at the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Datuk Mohamad Azhan Md. Amir; Director of the Industrial Relations Division, MoHE, Dato’ Dr Mohd Sharil Abdullah; and Chairman of the University Board of Directors, UUM, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukor Mahfar.
