SKRIPT’24 Helps Mitigate Potential Risks
SINTOK: In an effort to cultivate risk management practices that comprehensively mitigate potential risks, the Public Universities Risk Management Council (MARISK) and the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Risk Management Division organised the Higher Education Institution Risk Summit 2024 (SKRIPT’24), which ran for two days.
The Director of the Governance Division at the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Mr. Hussin Mahmud stated that SKRIPT’24 provides a wealth of information that can be shared to enhance governance related to risk management in higher education institutions.
He emphasised that risk management must be prioritised in governance and within the administration of federal statutory bodies.
He noted that the outcomes of the conference will assist MoHE in formulating policy papers on risk management.
“This is a very commendable effort, and I hope it continues in the future.
“This sharing is essential, and at the same time, the government’s risk management has not attained the standards set by private companies such as Etiqa and Tabung Haji,” he remarked, representing the Chief Secretary of MoHE at EDC UUM.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan emphasised that SKRIPT serves as an important platform for exchanging viewpoints and experiences on the risk challenges faced by higher education institutions in Malaysia, particularly in terms of resilience, agility, and sustainability.
He indicated that the discussions over the two-day event would focus on artificial intelligence, facility risks, the evolving risk landscape of higher education institutions, and sustainability, expressing confidence that these deliberations will greatly benefit all participants.
He added that the summit also presents an excellent avenue for participants to enhance their knowledge, strengthen collaborations, and build networks between institutions in the quest of continuous excellence.
“I also anticipate that the discussions will yield innovative ideas and practical solutions to tackle the risk challenges faced by higher education institutions.
“I would like to thank MARISK for organising this summit in collaboration with the Risk Management Division of the UUM Chancellery,” he stated.
At the same juncture, the launch of MARISK and the Malaysian Public Universities Risk Management Practice Book took place, alongside the presentation of a certificate for the MARISK Logo Design Competition to the winner, Mr. Abdul Muiz Basyir Mohamad, who received a cash prize of RM200 and a certificate of appreciation.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Russayani Ismail, delivered the keynote address at SKRIPT 2024.
