SINTOK, 17 November 2025: The Global Buddies Club (GBC), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), recently offered inbound mobility students of the A251 semester an engaging cultural-sport experience through a special archery programme titled “One Arrow One Chance”, held at the UUM Archery Field.

Designed to introduce participants to one of Malaysia’s well-loved traditional sports, the programme delivered far more than a simple introductory lesson. Students were taught fundamental techniques including proper stance, posture, aiming, and shooting—under the close guidance of skilled members of the UUM Archery Club. Through detailed demonstrations and supportive hands-on coaching, participants quickly grew in confidence as they put their newfound skills to the test.

The session brought together a vibrant mix of three officials from the Centre for International Affairs (CIAC), 35 international students and 17 programme committee members, transforming the archery field into a lively cultural mosaic. Laughter, friendly cheers, and enthusiastic encouragement filled the air as participants celebrated well-aimed shots—and shared light-hearted moments over the occasional misses.

Yet, beyond the excitement of hitting the target, the true highlight of the programme was the meaningful interaction between students from diverse backgrounds. The relaxed outdoor setting created an ideal environment for cultural exchange, teamwork, and the forging of new friendships. What began as a straightforward sports activity gradually evolved into a shared bonding experience that transcended language, culture, and nationality.

The event served as a reminder that learning extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom. It flourishes in open spaces where individuals connect, challenge themselves, and grow through shared experiences. This memorable archery session not only introduced students to a culturally rich and skillful sport but also strengthened their sense of belonging and community within UUM. – H’ng Zhi Shin
