BRUNEI, 16-19 October 2025: The Student Mobility Programme between Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB), University Utara Malaysia (UUM), and University Brunei Darussalam (UBD) was held from 16 to 19 October 2025 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.
The programme brought together 10 students from OYAGSB, led by Dr Nazahah Abd Rahim, MBA Program Director, and supported by Mdm. Nur Shahira binti Mohd Ludin.

The programme aimed to provide students with exposure to international learning environments, promote cross-cultural understanding, and strengthen academic collaboration between the two institutions. Over four days, participants engaged in a series of academic activities, industry visits, and cultural experiences.
One of the highlights of the first day was a visit to Muara Port Company Sdn. Bhd. (MPC). The OYAGSB delegation was warmly welcomed UBD’s Deputy Dean of Engagement and Partnerships, Dr Thuraya Farhana binti Haji Said, together with representatives from MPC.

MPC was established in 2017 as a joint venture between Darussalam Assets Sdn. Bhd. and Beibu Gulf Holding (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd. It officially took over the full operation and management of Muara Port on 18 July 2018. As Brunei’s main maritime gateway, the port is strategically located at the entrance of the South China Sea. Its vision is to become a regional hub port supporting Brunei’s logistics and manufacturing sectors, with a focus on efficiency, innovation, and customer service excellence.
Upon arrival, participants received an overview of MPC’s operations and its strategic role in supporting Brunei’s trade and logistics sector. A guided tour followed, allowing students to observe key operations such as container handling, warehouse management, and vessel docking procedures. They were also briefed on MPC’s two main terminals – the Container Terminal and the Conventional Terminal – each designed to manage specific categories of cargo. Additionally, MPC offers bunkering services in partnership with Brunei Shell Marketing and provides logistics support for urea exports through partnerships with Brunei Fertilizer Industries.

A unique component of the visit was the opportunity to explore the Astro Cruise vessel, berthed within Muara Port. The Astro Cruise, operated in collaboration with local tourism stakeholders, the vessel functions as both a leisure and corporate cruise platform that showcases Brunei’s hospitality and tourism potential. During the walkthrough, the ship’s operations team briefed students on cruise management, safety protocols, hospitality standards, and berth logistics coordinated with MPC. This experience highlighted the integration of port facilities with Brunei’s growing tourism sector and demonstrated how diversified economic activities contribute to Wawasan Brunei 2035.
The MPC team also guided participants through the Container Freight Station (CFS) and the Muara International Fish Landing (MIFL). Students learned about the key functions, operations, and services offered at both facilities, gaining firsthand insight into end-to-end port and logistics operations.

Overall, the visit enabled MBA students to connect theoretical concepts in logistics and operations management with real-world applications. It provided a holistic understanding of how strategic leadership, technological innovation, and sustainability practices underpin MPC’s role as a national logistics hub. These experiences enriched students’ global business perspectives and enhanced their appreciation of cross-border industrial collaboration within ASEAN.

The OYAGSB–UBD Mobility Programme successfully met its objectives of fostering international exposure and academic collaboration. The visit to Muara Port Company, especially the Astro Cruise vessel walkthrough, was a key highlight, offering participants comprehensive insights into logistics operations, sustainability initiatives, and strategic management in a regional context.
This programme has significantly enhanced the students’ learning experience and strengthen their appreciation of ASEAN’s interconnected economic ecosystem.
