New Students Embrace University Life at UUM

SINTOK, 13 March 2025: “The academic journey is not merely about obtaining a degree, but it involves a transformative experience that shapes one’s personality, fosters lifelong learning and enriches one’s experience.

“Make the most of the opportunities available. With determination, effort, and the drive to succeed, you will be part of UUM’s success in shaping a bright future.”

This was the message from the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, delivered in conjunction with the New Students’ Orientation Week for the 2025 academic session at the SAC Auditorium yesterday.

UUM warmly welcomes all new students and congratulates them on successfully embarking on their journey into the world of higher education.

“We welcome you with great joy, and you should feel proud to be part of UUM, a prestigious University.

“Utilise your time here by striving for academic excellence while also honing your talents and potential. Develop yourself holistically as individuals focusing on personality, spirituality, integrity and well-being,” he said.

He explained that Orientation Week serves as the first step in nurturing students by providing them with guidance and support as they familiarise themselves with UUM.

The Orientation Week is designed to introduce new students to life at the university, offer insights into to the academic system, and foster strong connections among students, lecturers, and university denizens.

“Hence, make full use of this time to develop a positive attitude, establish a strong identity, foster a spirit of cooperation and develop a sense of belonging among UUM students, enabling you to adapt comfortably.

“UUM is committed to holistic learning that not only prioritises academic excellence but also encourage active involvement in co-curricular activities, leadership, and entrepreneurship.

“Seize every opportunity to enhance your experience and skills while building a network of beneficial relationships.

“Shape your future so that, throughout your time here, you develop into well-rounded individuals in terms of academic achievements, personality growth and co-curricular activities involvement. With these three elements, I am confident that UUM will instil a sense of pride in you, especially as you enter the workforce, while also enhancing Graduate Employability (GE),” he said.

He noted that last year, UUM was among the universities that achieved a remarkable graduate employability rate of 96 percent, thus indicating a strong interest in hiring UUM students shortly after their graduation.

He expressed hope that all the dedication and hard work invested during this period of study would bring success in becoming esteemed alumni and further elevating UUM’s reputation.

The ceremony also featured the recitation of the pledge by new students, led by Mr. Muhammad Irham Ismail, a  student of the Bachelor of Public Management programme.
