UUM Celebrates Independence Month with Jalur Gemilang Flying and Fun Walk
SINTOK, 5 August 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) reaffirms its commitment to fostering the spirit of patriotism among its denizens by organising the Jalur Gemilang Flying Ceremony alongside the Fun Walk, as part of the Independence Month Celebration. This vibrant event took place this morning at the Foyer of the Chancellery Building and its surrounding areas.
The programme successfully attracted the participation of approximately 350 individuals comprising UUM staff and senior university officials, who took part in the 3.6-kilometer walk around the campus.
The flag-off ceremony was officiated by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, who also joined the walk. He took the opportunity to tour the campus while expressing his appreciation for the strong turnout and active involvement of UUM denizens.
The event was held in conjunction with the Monthly Assembly, jointly organised by the Risk Management Division (RMD), Sultanah Bahiyah Library and the Corporate Communications Department. It also coincided with the closing ceremony of the Kedah state-level OSH week.
Adding prestige to the event was the presence of the Director of the Kedah State Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOH), Tuan Haji Abdul Aziz Salim, along with other DOH delegations. Their attendance demonstrated strong support for promoting greater awareness of occupational safety and health within the university community.
Also present to enliven the event were the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Members of the University Management Committee, Heads of Centres of Authority (PTJ) and Senior University Officials, all of whom contributed to strengthening the spirit of patriotism and unity at UUM.
The programme began with the singing of the Malaysia Madani and Rakyat Disantuni songs which evoked a deep sense of national pride and love for the country, resonating with the theme of this year’s 68th National Day celebration.
Beyond instilling patriotism, the Fun Walk also aimed to strengthen camaraderie among the campus community and promote a healthy lifestyle among UUM denizens.
