UUM Co-Curriculum Day 2025: A Platform to Showcase Student Potential and Holistic Values
SINTOK, 22 June 2025 – Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) continues to strengthen its commitment to producing holistic graduates with the successful organisation of UUM Co-Curriculum Day 2025, which was held at the UUM Parade Ground.
The event was officiated by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan.
In his address, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan expressed his appreciation to those who contributed to the success of the annual event, which marks the culmination of UUM’s student co-curricular activities.
According to him, the Co-Curriculum Day is more than just a celebration or an exhibition of student activities, but rather as a symbol of balanced self-development process encompassing intellect, character, soft skills, and identity.
“This aligns with the aspirations of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of Quality Education, Good Health and Well-Being and Sustainable Community,” he said.
He further emphasised that today’s students are the successors of the nation’s future, they must develop discipline and leadership values during their time at the university. He noted that co-curricular activities play a crucial role in shaping the values and skills that will determine a person’s success in their career.
He stated that knowledge is not merely for passing exams or acquiring a degree, but a tool for shaping civilisation and advancing national progress.
“That is why we emphasise holistic learning that encompasses academics, co-curricular activities, and self-development,” he said.
Various interesting programmes were held throughout UUM Co-Curriculum Day 2025, including performances by student clubs and associations, exhibitions of co-curricular activities, competitions, and interactive games.
In addition, the Co-Curriculum Day showcased various performances and demonstrations by co-curricular students such as Reserve Officer Training Unit (ROTU), Student Police Volunteer Corps (SUKSIS Corps), martial arts teams, as well as artistic and cultural performances, which reflect students’ ability to integrate physical, mental, and emotional aspects in a balanced manner.
The Vice-Chancellor also addressed the necessity for the evolution of co-curricular activities in the era of Industrial Revolution 5.0.
According to him, UUM has begun exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in training methods, assessment, and management of student activities to align with the current digital world.
“We aim for UUM students to be proficient in technology, capable of critical thinking, and able to respond swiftly. Co-curricular activities that incorporate AI elements will empower students to become relevant and adaptive future leaders,” he said.
Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan also called on UUM students to fully utilise all the spaces and opportunities provided by the university as preparation to face real-world challenges.
“Co-curricular activities should serve as a platform for honing talents, developing character, and promoting unity.
Congratulations to all who contributed their efforts to ensure the success of UUM Co-Curriculum Day 2025. I am confident this programme has a significant impact on the character development of UUM students,” he said.
