Vice-Chancellor Reviews Counselling Laboratory Preparations at the School of Education

SINTOK, 12 January 2026 – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Prof. Dr Ahmad Marthada Mohamed, conducted a working visit to the School of Education (SoE) to review the readiness of facilities designated for the development of the Individual Counselling Room and the enhancement of the Group Counselling Room.

The visit was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Ram Al Jaffri Saad, and the Director of the Department of Development and Infrastructure Management (JPPI), Ir. Hamdan Noh. The delegation assessed the proposed facilities to ensure full compliance with audit requirements and adherence to standards prescribed by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Malaysian Board of Counsellors (LKM) for the Bachelor of Education (Guidance and Counselling) Programme.

During the session, Ir. Hamdan Noh delivered a briefing on key infrastructure considerations, including space planning, layout optimisation, client privacy, and security requirements essential for the effective operation of a counselling laboratory.

The upgrading of these facilities is a critical step in supporting students’ practical training and safeguarding the academic integrity and professional standards of the programme.

The Dean of the School of Education (SoE), Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohamad Khairi Othman, described the visit as timely and significant in reinforcing SoE’s commitment to providing counselling laboratory facilities that meet national regulatory and professional benchmarks.

“The provision of Individual Counselling Rooms and the enhancement of Group Counselling Rooms are essential requirements to ensure that practical training for students in the Bachelor of Education (Guidance and Counselling) Programme is conducted ethically, professionally, and in accordance with current standards,” he said.

He further emphasised that the university management’s sustained commitment and support serve as a key catalyst in SoE’s ongoing efforts to uphold programme quality and produce competent, industry-ready counselling graduates.
