Shell Malaysia Empowers UUM Students Through Case Study Workshop
SINTOK, 18 November 2024: On 14th November 2024, Shell Malaysia hosted an engaging and insightful case study workshop exclusively for Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) students from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). This initiative represented a dynamic collaboration between Management and Leadership Case Study Centre (PKKPK), BGS, the Career Development and Graduate Employability Centre, and the Centre for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC). The event served as a crucial platform, seamlessly connecting academia and industry while preparing students for their future careers.
The workshop aimed to develop students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and career readiness skills, all while fostering stronger academia-industry ties. It also functioned as an excellent preparatory platform for the Shell Graduate Program, offering participants with invaluable insights into the competencies required to join one of the world’s leading energy companies.
The day commenced with a warm welcome and a comprehensive safety briefing, leading into an inspiring introduction to Shell Malaysia presented by Ms. Renuga Manohar, Head of Integrated Resourcing Malaysia. She shared insights into Shell’s operations, values, and its global impact. This was followed by the case study session, coordinated by Ms. Aqiela Hadi, Marketing Advisor, EBTA Malaysia. During the session, students immersed themselves in the analysis of case materials, collaborated on innovative solutions, and enriched their understanding through dynamic group discussions.
The afternoon’s highlight was a career sharing session conducted by Mr. Jeffrey Chin, Global Planning, Appraisal, and Reporting Manager. His presentation delivered invaluable career guidance, personal development strategies, and insights into thriving in the corporate world, leaving students motivated and inspired.
Ms. Ng Ying San, a Bachelor of Accounting with Honours student from TISSA, reflected, “This workshop not only sharpened our analytical and presentation skills but also inspired us with practical insights and unveiled exciting opportunities in the corporate world, leaving us empowered and motivated for the journey ahead.”
The program concluded with a networking lunch and an office tour, offering participants a firsthand glimpse into Shell Malaysia’s dynamic workplace culture and an opportunity to connect with industry professionals.
Dr Narentheren, Director of PKKPK, highlighted the broader impact of the workshop, stating, “This workshop not only benefitted students but also provided academics with insights into how corporations utilize case studies to evaluate and develop essential skills.” Meanwhile, Prof. Dr Chandrakantan, Director of CUIC, emphasized the strategic importance of the collaboration, commenting, “This partnership between Shell Malaysia and UUM equips our students with industry-relevant skills, ensuring they graduate as industry-ready professionals.”
Also present at the event were Dr Nor Atikah Shafai, Coordinator of BGS; Dr Fikriyah Abdullah, Director of the Career Development and Graduate Employability Centre; Dr Noor Amalina Mat Yusof, Deputy Director of PKKPK; Dr. Adilah Azhari, Coordinator of the School of Hard Knocks (SoHK); along with several administrative staff members.
