UUM Receives RM775,000 in Donation

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 December 2024 – Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has received a donation amounting to RM775,000 from various corporate bodies.

The contributions comprise RM400,000 from Lembaga Tabung Haji, RM200,000 from Etiqa General Takaful Berhad, RM15,000 from RHB Islamic Bank, RM130,000 from PLUS Malaysia Berhad, and RM30,000 from Tetuan Anissah and Marina.

In addition, Alumni Ansara UUM has generously contributed laptops for the benefit of eligible foundation or first-year students, especially those from the B40 group.

The handover ceremony was held in conjunction with UUMKL Open Day 2024, which marked Universiti Utara Malaysia’s 40th Anniversary, at the Kuala Lumpur Campus.

The event aimed to honour and recognise the contributions of corporate entities to UUM in advancing educational development and supporting the welfare of its students.

The donation was presented to the Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, in the presence of the Director of the UUM Zakat and Endowment Centre, Prof. Dr Rosylin Mohd Yusof, and the Head of UUMKL Campus, Prof. Dr Norlena Hasnan.

During the same event, the UUM Zakat and Endowment Centre launched a special booth for the generation of zakat and endowment funds. This initiative represents a collaborative endeavour between the Zakat Collection Centre – MAIWP and Ieza Yusof Consultancy Sdn. Bhd.

This effort seeks to enhance public awareness of the significance of zakat and endowment as vital instruments for the advancement of higher education and to contribute to the attainment of academic excellence.

The UUM Zakat and Endowment Centre, in collaboration with the Zakat Collection Centre-MAIWP and Ieza Yusof Consultancy Sdn. Bhd., has produced a podcast titled ‘Pemerkasaan Zakat dan Wakaf’.

This podcast features a panel comprising Prof. Dr Rosylin, Senior Manager of PPZ-MAIWP; Ustaz Mohamad Shafiq Abdullah, a mentor in Financial and Real Estate Management; and Mdm. Norizza Muhamad Yusof.

This podcast discussion aims to shed light on the role of zakat and endowment in strengthening the economy of the ummah and enhancing welfare initiatives for the collective benefit of society.
