UUM para athlete won bronze medal

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) archery para athlete successfully clinched third place in the Open Men’s Recurve Team Category at the 2022 Para National Archery Championship Circuit 2, recently.

Student of Bachelor of Law, Nek Muhammad Sofwan Najim Nek Ali who represented the state of Kedah participated in the tournament which took place from September 29 to October 2.

Nek Muhammad Sofwan said, he did not expect his debut appearance at the 2022 Para Nationals stage to bring home a bronze medal for Kedah.

“This medal is not only a personal best achievement, but a gift to the state of Kedah and also to the university, especially the Vice-Chancellor who has given me a lot of support and encouragement to win this medal.

“Now, I will concentrate on training for Para SUKMA XX MSN 2022 which will take place next November,” he said.

In addition to Nek Muhammad Sofwan, two other para athletes, student of Bachelor of Science (Business Mathematics), Abdul Rahman Muhamad Rasidi and student of Bachelor of Science in Economics, Nurin Irdina Jasmine will also represent Kedah at the tournament.

Overall, the Kedah archery squad won four gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal.

Earlier, Nek Muhammad Sofwan received a donation of a wheelchair and RM2,000 in cash from the Student Support and Services Division (SSSD), Student Affairs Department (JHEP) which was presented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Ahmad Martadha Mohamed.
