SINTOK, 8 October 2025: The Global Buddies Club (GBC) of Universiti Utara Malaysia, in collaboration with the International Orientation Week (IOW) team, successfully organised a campus tour titled “Discover Sintok Campus: Green Edition with GBC.”
The programme, centred on the theme of sustainability, was specially designed for inbound mobility students and international students of the A251 semester. It aimed to introduce participants to the academic environment and various facilities available at UUM.
Through this interactive campus tour, students gained first-hand exposure to UUM’s structure and key landmarks, including lecture halls, the library, the Student Centre, and other essential academic and social support facilities. Beyond orientation, the initiative underscored the importance of sustainability, inspiring participants to adopt environmentally conscious practices during their exchange journey.
A total of 55 students, comprising international and inbound mobility students, joined the tour alongside six GBC members and seven IOW committee members. “We are thankful for the collaboration with IOW, which made this programme successful and meaningful for all participants,” said Ms. Ng Xin Ke, the Programme Director.
The day began with a gathering and breakfast at Varsity Mall, followed by visits to several key locations such as the Arts and Cultural Centre (PBS), the UUM Library, the College of Business (COB), and the Mu’adzam Shah Hall (DMAS). Participants also learned about UUM’s sustainability initiatives during a special session that included a visit to the ostrich and deer farm, where one of the participants from Uzbekistan captured a particularly memorable photo.
More than just a campus orientation, the programme became a valuable platform for cultural exchange and friendship building. Despite coming from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, participants supported one another, shared stories, and enjoyed moments of laughter throughout the tour.
The event concluded with a bus tour around all Inasis, where students were dropped off at their respective accommodations — marking the end of an insightful and enjoyable day. The programme not only familiarised participants to UUM’s academic and social ecosystem but also fostered a genuine sense of belonging and community spirit.
Sincere appreciation is extended to the IOW management team, GBC members, and all participants for their contributions in making this event a memorable and inspiring start to their journey at UUM. – Ng Xin Ke
