Hasanah Foundation donates RM10,000 to support Pulau Tuba community
TUBA PULAU, 19 April 2026: Hasanah Foundation (a Khazanah Nasional-owned foundation) contributed RM10,000 in support of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration with the Pulau Tuba community through the SE-Budi Raya Hasanah Programme initiative.
This special visit was led by Hasanah Foundation Managing Director, Mdm Siti Kamariah Ahmad Subki, together with a distinguished delegation comprising Head of Strategic Partnerships Division, Yang Mulia Raja Nor Dianna Raja Harun; Senior Director of the Education Unit, Dr Nur Anuar Abdul Muthalib and Senior Manager of the Education Unit, Mr Anuar Jaafar.
In addition to the contribution from Hasanah Foundation, the Tuba and Straits Islands Cooperative (BESTUBA) also contributed RM10,000, further strengthening collective efforts to ensure a meaningful and successful festive celebration for the Pulau Tuba community.
The SE-Budi Raya Hasanah Programme was led by Associate Professor Dr Mohd Sobri Don A. Wahab, General Manager of UUM Leads Sdn. Bhd., who has played a key role in supporting the initiative since the inception of the SE-Budi Hasanah Programme.
To date, the SE-Budi Hasanah Programme has received a total of RM361,000 in funding from Hasanah Foundation to empower 241 secondary school students through the enhancement of English language proficiency and the integration of social entrepreneurship elements within the school ecosystem and local community.
Head of the SE-Budi Hasanah Project, Ms Fatin Athirah Fadzillah, expressed sincere appreciation for Hasanah Foundation’s visit and continued support for the initiative.
“We are deeply grateful that the Pulau Tuba project and community were selected to receive a visit from Hasanah Foundation.
“The long-standing collaboration with BESTUBA and SMK Langkawi, Tuba continues to strengthen the sense of family and partnership between the university, the community and our programme sponsors,” she said.
During the roundtable discussion session, Hasanah Foundation took the opportunity to hear firsthand the concerns, perspectives, and live

d experiences of the community members and grassroot stakeholders.
This discussion enabled Hasanah Foundation to gain a deeper understanding of the Pulau Tuba community’s actual needs, while opening avenues for more strategic and holistic cooperation in the future.
Also present at the roundtable discussion were Mr Fazlan Mohd Nor and Mdm Mahyon Mashor from BESTUBA; Mr Andy Bachtiar from UUM Leads Sdn Bhd; Dr Chew Yen Seng, CEO of Chumbaka, Penang; Ms Bahiyah Md Idris, Director of Unifilm UUM; Dr Hasnizam Hasan from the Institute of Business and Community Sustainability (IBCSI), SBM UUM; Mr Zainuddin Ali, Director of Zecdin Training & Consultancy; Mr Ahmad Tawfik Abdullah representing the Principal and Coordinator of the SE-Budi Hasanah Programme, SMK Langkawi, Tuba; Mdm. Azalina Mansor, Parliamentary Coordinator of APPGM-SDG, Langkawi; and Mdm Suzana Md Noh, Persatuan LAWA (SP) and Manager of Baron Group.
The SE-Budi Hasanah team was led by Mr Muhammad Ishaq Hajah Alavudin, with coordination support from Ms Nurul Syafiqah Baidrulhisam, Ms Liza Steven, Ms Dhia Awatif, Mr Krishna Poobalan, Ms Wiyandha Keysha Dharmawan, Mr Praven Ravi Chandran and Mr Henry Saw Tern Lee.
Representing BESTUBA, which also contributed RM10,000 to the celebration, Chairman Mohd Fazlan Nor and Mdm Mahyon Mashor led the roundtable discussion on behalf of the Pulau Tuba community.
Ms Fatin Athirah, who is also a Senior Language Teacher at the School of Languages, Civilisation and Philosophy (SLCP), said that the SE-Budi Hasanah Programme has benefited from strong curriculum support by Professor Dr Nurahimah Yusoff and Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Noor Abdul Aziz from the School of Education (SoE), who serve as curriculum reference experts for the initiative. She added that both academics have also played an important mentoring role in her doctoral journey.
“The integration of English language with social entrepreneurship is designed to nurture the younger generation of Pulau Tuba as agents of social change who are capable of creating a positive and lasting impact within their own community,” she said.
Beyond celebrating Hari Raya in an inclusive and meaningful manner, the programme also served as an important platform for strengthening ties between the university, the Pulau Tuba community, and its donors in support of a brighter future for the island’s younger generation.
