Dr Zambry Encourages Students to Embrace Lifelong Learning

SINTOK, 9 March 2025: University is not the final destination in the pursuit of knowledge, but rather it marks the beginning for individuals who are encouraged to seek knowledge from an early age until death, as lifelong learning has no end.

The Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir emphasised the importance of lifelong learning, urging the students to continue expanding their education and knowledge acquisition even after graduating. This, he said, would empower themselves to enhance their personal growth and contribute meaningfully to the country and society.

According to him, acquiring new knowledge is essential for self-improvement and adding value to one’s life.

“The goal of being a student is to graduate with a scroll in hand. However, as Muslims, it is insufficient to merely return to your respective countries without further intellectual and spiritual enrichment.

“The government provides numerous opportunities and resources for individuals to explore and enhance their knowledge as an effort to cultivate lifelong learning, including short course studies, distance learning (PJJ) and part-time studies,” he said at Kembara Ramadan KPT 2025/1446H programme held at the Sultan Badlishah Mosque, early this morning.

This initiative, conceived by Dr. Zambry, aims to provide direct engagement with students, foster dialogue, and provide financial aid to those in need.

Dr. Zambry expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to share sahur with UUM students during this sacred month, which serves as a test of faith and as a means to strengthen one’s devotion to Allah.

According to him, fasting is not just an act of worship but a means of cultivating piety in individuals, as commanded by Allah, to deepen one’s devotion to Him.

During the event, financial assistance was also distributed, notably from Yayasan Perkasa Siswa (YPS) which allocated RM250 to 20 underprivilege students through the Bantuan Kasih Ramadan YPS and RHB Islamic Bank Berhad channelled RM105,340 to UUM through implementation of the MySiswa card initiative for the year 2024.

In addition, corporate donations totalling RM200,000 and contributions from the Baitulmal Food Sponsorship Assistance Programme (Fidyah) amounting to RM120,000 were presented to the UUM management and the Student Representative Council (SRC).

On that occasion, the Minister of Higher Education also announced an additional RM20,000 from YPS to the Student Representative Council to support student activities.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, stated that the Kembara Ramadan programme serves as a platform for UUM students to engage with the Minister and the MoHE management. He also expressed gratitude for Dr. Zambry’s willingness to share sahur with them.

He also thanked the corporate and industrial partners who collectively donated approximately RM430,000 to assist underprivileged students.

Also present were the Deputy Secretary-General (Policy) at the Ministry of Higher Education, Dato’ Dr Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian and the Director-General of Higher Education, Datuk Prof. Dr. Azlinda Azman.
