Nurturing a Culture of Teaching Excellence, UTLC Celebrates UUM’s Academic Distinction

SINTOK, 31 December 2025 — The University Teaching and Learning Centre (UTLC), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to cultivating a vibrant culture of teaching and learning excellence with the organisation of the UTLC Appreciation Ceremony 2025, an occasion dedicated to honouring the dedication, innovation, and outstanding achievements of the university’s academic community.

The ceremony, held at the Seminar Hall, UUM Islamic Centre was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed. The event brought together members of the university’s senior management, academic staff, and distinguished award recipients in a celebration of scholarly dedication and pedagogical leadership.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor expressed deep pride in UUM’s achievements throughout 2025, a year that saw the university secure two National Academic Awards (Anugerah Akademik Negara, AAN), earn finalist status in the Innovative Curriculum Design and Delivery Award (AKRI), and garner five prestigious accolades at The International University Carnival on E-Learning (IUCEL) organised by the Ministry of Higher Education.

He noted that these accomplishments stand as a testament to the strength of UUM’s academic ecosystem, one that thrives on collaboration, embraces pedagogical innovation, and remains steadfast in its pursuit of teaching and learning excellence that is both relevant and globally competitive.

“Teaching excellence is never the product of chance. It is born of intellectual renewal, sustained courage to explore new approaches, and an unwavering commitment to delivering meaningful and transformative learning experiences for our students,” he remarked.

Echoing this sentiment, UTLC Director Prof. Dr Siti Noor Ismail emphasised that the appreciation ceremony was far more than a symbolic gesture of recognition; it represents a living affirmation of the culture of teaching excellence that has been thoughtfully and consistently nurtured at UUM.

She emphasised UTLC’s role as a strategic partner to academic staff, supporting the development of reflective, innovative educators while strengthening the implementation of high-impact teaching and learning practices across the university.

The programme was further enriched by a dynamic sharing session titled “Inspiring Excellence: Sharing Session with the AAN Winners”, featuring two of UUM’s National Academic Award recipients, namely Prof. Dr Haslinda Ibrahim and Ts. Dr Mohamad Fitri Mohamad Haris.

The ceremony culminated in the presentation of the UTLC Appreciation Certificates 2025, formally recognising recipients whose contributions have played a pivotal role in advancing the quality, impact, and future-readiness of teaching and learning at UUM.
