TAIPING, 4 May 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), through its Centre for International Affairs and Cooperation (CIAC), partnered with Spritzer Malaysia to organise a meaningful corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative that seamlessly combined environmental stewardship with cross-cultural engagement at the picturesque Spritzer EcoPark in Taiping, Perak.

This initiative exemplifies UUM’s ongoing commitment to holistic student development by encouraging meaningful learning experiences beyond the classroom. Set amidst lush greenery and renowned eco-attractions such as the Discovery Tunnel, Cactus Rock, and a scenic mini golf course, Spritzer EcoPark offered the perfect backdrop for this environmentally themed activity.

The programme brought together 42 international students from seven countries — China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Palestine, Uzbekistan, Yemen, and Nigeria — alongside CIAC staff and members of the UUM Global Buddies Club (GBC). Together, they engaged in a hands-on beautification project, repainting wooden poles throughout the Spritzer EcoPark using eco-friendly paints, under the guidance of Spritzer Malaysia’s welcoming staff.

“This is an entirely new experience for me,” said Khakimova Madina, an inbound mobility student from Uzbekistan.

“I feel proud to contribute to the preservation of such a beautiful park that welcomes visitors from all over the world,” she said.

The day began with a warm welcome from Spritzer EcoPark representatives, who emphasised Spritzer Malaysia’s strong commitment to sustainability. Participants were subsequently granted exclusive access to the company’s advanced production and warehouse facilities, providing valuable insights into its environmentally responsible practices.

“I am amazed to learn how a homegrown Malaysian company has already integrated automation and robotics even before the COVID-19 pandemic. It reflects remarkable foresight and innovation,” remarked Umar Abdullahi, a Nigerian PhD student.

Beyond serving as a community service initiative, the CSR activity served as a platform for cross-cultural exchange, environmental education, and team-building. As students from diverse backgrounds collaborated, they not only deepened their appreciation for the environmental conservation but also forged lasting friendships that transcended borders. – Amierul Husniey Che Abd Rahman
