UUM Remains the Top Choice with Over 4500 Students Enrolling for 2025/2026 Academic Session
SINTOK, 23 September 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) welcomed 4,549 new students, comprising both local and international intakes, who will be pursuing 48 undergraduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, said that out of the total, 4,381 are local students who have completed their Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) / equivalent, Diploma, Matriculation, UUM Foundation Studies in Management, and the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM), while 3.7 percent (168) are international students.
He explained that the largest group among the local intake came through the national centralised admission system (UPU) with 4,118 students, followed by 263 students from the UUM Foundation in Management.
For this year’s admission, UUM recorded 69 percent (3,143) female students and 31 percent (1,406) male students.
“As for the international intake, UUM has received 110 undergraduate students from Indonesia (81), China (15), Thailand (5), Somalia (4) and Uzbekistan (2), and one (1) from Pakistan, Yemen and Bangladesh respectively.
“Meanwhile, 57 mobility students have joined UUM from Indonesia (33), Uzbekistan (16), China (3), Brunei (3), Timor Leste (1) and France (1), together with one (1) local student enrolled through international channel as the student had been studying and residing abroad,” he said.
The Bachelor of Accounting with Honours programme recorded the highest enrolment with 430 students, followed by the Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours (230) and the Bachelor of Science Economics with Honours (227).
Both the Bachelor of Accounting with Honours and the Bachelor of Accounting (Information System) with Honours programmes have maintained an entry requirement CGPA of 4.00 for STPM/Matriculation graduates.
As in previous years, UUM also offered admission to students with disabilities (OKU) from various categories, with 11 students enrolled this year, alongside nine (9) Orang Asli students and nine pairs of twins.
Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan stated that, UUM received the highest number of twin admissions compared to last year, which recorded only six pairs.
As of 21 September 2025, UUM’s total student population stands at 30,212, comprising 26,398 undergraduates and 3,814 postgraduates.
