317 UUM Athletes Eager to Compete in SUKIPT Challenge

SINTOK – A total of 317 athletes from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) have been training rigorously for the upcoming 6th Edition of the Higher Education Institution Games (SUKIPT) 2024, scheduled to take place from 6 to 14 September.

The UUM contingent, comprising 186 male and 131 female athletes, will compete in 25 different events, including golf, taekwondo, athletics, archery, and kayaking.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, conveyed his congratulations on behalf of the UUM management team to the UUM contingent, who will compete against athletes from public universities across Malaysia.

“With a strong sense of determination, unwavering persistence, and consistent daily training, one can strive to achieve their utmost potential and attain success.

“Although our university does not specialise solely in sports, I am inspired by the dedication and determination I witness every evening at practice. I am confident our athletes will do their very best to bring home medals to our university.”

He emphasised that consistent dedication and hard work lead to significant achievements in any sporting pursuit.

“I hope everyone will strive with unwavering commitment and, above all, persevere until the very last moments of the competition.

“Utilise the time you have to stay focused in your efforts until you attain success, as your success is a source of our tremendous pride.

“We have two alternatives, either we, as the host, witness the achievements of others, or we, as the host, are acknowledged and honoured with success. We certainly aspire to achieve success,” he said at the Universiti Utara Malaysia Contingent Flag Handing Ceremony for the 6th Edition of the Higher Education Institution Games (SUKIPT) 2024 this morning.

He further reiterated that the athletes at SUKIPT aspire not only to represent themselves but also to represent all UUM denizens. In addition, they aim to use the occasion to foster friendships with other participants.

“We extend our best wishes and eagerly anticipate your continued success. You are the heroes and heroines of our hearts,” he said.

As an impressive display of commitment, fighting spirit, and cooperation, the UUM Stadium reverberated with the resounding chant of “UUM Boleh!”

Meanwhile, the 400-metre hurdles athlete, Ms. Nuraina Adriana Norazman, emphasised the importance of displaying exemplary sportsmanship in the athletes’ pursuit of the title of champion.

“Preparations thus far have proceeded smoothly. All athletes diligently undergo training sessions according to the schedule and programme provided by our respective coaches.

“I am very optimistic about achieving success and representing UUM on the podium. By doing so, I hope to promote the UUM brand and improve my running time,” expressed the Bachelor of Law student.
