CTP Set to Drive Development in Changlun
CHANGLUN, 12 January 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) launched the Changloon Transformation Project (CTP), an important initiative set to drive the town of Changlun towards greater and more meaningful development and progress.
UUM Vice-Chancellor, Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad bin Sakdan said that the Changloon Transformation Project or CTP is a result of a strategic collaboration among multiple entities, including Universiti Utara Malaysia, the government, local authorities, industry partners, the local community and the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
He explained that this project is centred around four main focuses, one of which is Waste Transformation, aimed at implementing sustainable waste management practices to ensure Changlun evolves into a clean and environmentally-friendly town.
“Secondly, through Knowledge Transformation, we aim to cultivate a forward-thinking and competitive society. By emphasising education and innovation, we aspire to create a knowledgeable community where these values are consistently reflected in daily actions.
“In the area of Tourism Transformation, we will promote the uniqueness of Changlun’s culture and beauty as a premier tourist destination, leveraging on its position as Malaysia’s northern gateway,” he said.
With regard to Social Transformation, we aim to nurture a harmonious and supportive community that fosters unity and a safe, caring environment.
“CTP is not merely a plan on paper, it is a transformative initiative that actively engages every individual in Changlun.
“We believe that through education, innovation and collaborative spirit, Changlun can become a model for sustainable development, inspiring other regions to empower the Malaysian society,” he added.
He acknowledged that achieving such transformation is a challenging endeavour as it requires time, effort, commitment and collective actions from all parties involved.
“However, I am confident that with our collective commitment, Changlun can evolve into a town that is not only progressive, but also imbued with soul and identity,” he said before officiating the Changloon Transformation Project Launching Ceremony at C-Mart.
He called on the entire Changlun community to unite in addressing this challenge.
“Let us be part of this journey. Contribute ideas, energy and support to turn this dream into a reality,” he added.
Holistic urban development requires a balanced and comprehensive approach that integrates multiple aspects of human life, the environment, the economy and society in creating sustainable, inclusive and resilient cities.
UUM through CeTMA as the secretariat for the living campus has designed the CTP plan to cultivate a first-class mindset within the Changlun community, in alignment with its proximity to UUM, a globally recognised academic institution.
CTP is an initiative by UUM aimed at accelerating the development of Changlun through the provision of infrastructure, essential facilities and social amenities. This initiative aims to promote socio-economic development, improve the quality of life, generate income and create job opportunities.
The event also featured the presentation of appointment letters to CTP Volunteer Leaders and CTP Collaboration Partners.
