Charting Strategies and KPIs Towards UUM’s Vision
SINTOK, 19 May 2025: Phase IV (2026-2030) Strategic Plan Development Workshop Series 2: Engagement with the University Management Committee (JPU) and Heads of Centres of Authority (PTJ) aims to chart out and define the strategies and key performance indicators (KPI) that will be implemented in support of UUM’s vision to becoming the Eminent Management University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan said that the Phase III of UUM’s Strategic Plan is nearing completion, with 2025 marking its final year. Concurrently, preparations for the development of Phase IV (2026-2030) are actively underway, led by the Planning and Corporate Performance Division (BPPK).
“The framework for the Phase IV Strategic Plan was initiated and developed as early as September 2024,” he said.
He explained that eight key policies and UUM strategic directions have been identified as guiding pillars for the planning of Phase IV Strategic Plan over the next five years, from 2026 to 2030.
Among them, Educational Management, Global Excellence, R.I.C.E.S Excellence, Sustainability (Strengthening Infrastructure & Infostructure), Financial Sustainability (Funding, Generation & Cost Savings), Talent Development (Alumni, Students & Staff), Social Transformation (Community & Industry Engagement), as well as Governance and Leadership
“The UUM Strategic Plan serves as a crucial mechanism for implementation, monitoring and ensuring the achievement of both international and national agendas.
“Therefore, the development planning of Phase IV of the Strategic Plan needs to take into account the agendas at the international level which includes QS Ranking, Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings, and various international accreditations such as AACSB, AUNQA, AMBA and EQUIS, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) indicators.
In addition, the agenda at the national level needs to be given attention which consists of several main agendas, namely the Higher Education Direction (HTPT), MYMOHES, MyRA, OBB, RMK13, SETARA and NHEBP.
All of these agendas will have an impact on the newly introduced New Funding Formula (NFF) system by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), where university funding will be allocated based on institutional performance.
“We will establish and apply a three-tiered measurement system at the Strategy, Focus, and Vision levels of UUM—an advancement from the current Phase III, which is concentrated at the KPI and Performance Index (PI) levels. This enhancement will bring the total number of measurement levels in the Phase IV Strategic Plan to four distinct tiers.”
“As a result of this workshop, strategic mapping will be conducted at each level to ensure alignment and measurable impact toward achieving UUM’s Vision,” he said at the EDC-UUM, yesterday.
He expressed confidence in the collective expertise of all those present, believing that they would be able to collaboratively formulate, plan and determine the most effective strategies and work together toward their successful implementation.
“I would also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to everyone for their unwavering commitment in realising the UUM Strategic Plan starting from Phase I (2011-2015), Phase II (2016-2020) and now Phase III (2021-2025).
“Despite our many responsibilities, I am confident that each of us has given our utmost to ensure the successful implementation of the university’s strategic plan—thereby advancing UUM’s Vision and Mission to become the Eminent Management University and to nurture holistic, future-ready leaders who serve the global community,” he said.
