PENANG, 26 November 2025: A total of 43 students, comprising 32 students from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and 11 students from Northern Lights Private School (NLPS), took part in the ASEAN Youth Changemaker Workshop 2025. The programme, organised by MySEANLEAD (Malaysian ASEAN SDG Leadership) under the Malaysian Youth SDG Agent (MYSDGA) initiative, was held at Northern Lights Private School (NLPS), Simpang Ampat.

The workshop aimed to empower Malaysian and Indonesian youth by equipping them with the knowledge and skills to apply the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in addressing challenges within their local communities.

This initiative was supported by seven strategic partners, namely the Parliamentary Cross-Party Group Malaysia (KRPPM), MySDG Academy, Malaysian Youth Wave Association (PGMM), Northern Lights Private School (NLPS), Kuala Muda Land and District Office, UCSI University, and the Selangor Youth Community (SAY). Kairos Agriculture served as the programme’s technical partner.

Participants engaged in a full day of interactive workshops, leadership activities, and field visits to Kairos Agriculture, where they were introduced to sustainable farming methods and green technology applications. These activities enabled students to connect sustainability theories with practical, community-focused implementation.

The programme focused on SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), emphasising the importance of collaboration, innovation, and responsible practices in advancing sustainable development.

“Resilience is the power that makes this programme a reality,” said Wee Khai Nern, Malaysian Youth SDG Agent and Programme Director of the ASEAN Youth Changemaker Workshop 2025. “The commitment and passion shown by every participant and partner demonstrate how young people can turn challenges into meaningful change when guided by the spirit of sustainability.”

MySDG Academy sponsored the outbound bus for UUM students, while logistics and additional programme support were provided by Selangor Youth Community (SAY).

The organising committee expressed appreciation to the Student Affairs Department (HEP) and the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) for their continuous support and approval for UUM students to participate.

This programme not only strengthened youth awareness and understanding of sustainable development but also reaffirmed UUM’s commitment to cultivating future-ready ASEAN youth leaders who are capable of driving inclusive and sustainable change within their communities. – Nur Hayati Md Sharif
