SINTOK, 10 March 2026: Three accomplished final-year student leaders from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), who have served as mentors in the SE-Budi Hasanah programme, have secured impactful internship placements with leading organisations. Their achievements reflect the programme’s success in transforming community-engaged learning into valuable professional opportunities.

Ms. Siti Nurul Aulia Abdul Malek, a Bachelor of Philosophy, Law and Business (Hons) student, has begun her internship at Yayasan Hasanah. Meanwhile, Ms. Sofia Natasyah Saparin, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Linguistics and Business Administration (Hons), has joined Teleport, the logistics division of AirAsia Group, where she is attached to the operational customer experience division.

In addition, Ms. Siti Aisyah, another dedicated SE-Budi Hasanah student leader, will soon begin her Global Indirect Procurement Internship at Hilti Asia IT Services under the Hilti Group.

All three students are currently in Semester 7 and are approaching the completion of their undergraduate studies.

The SE-Budi Hasanah Community-Based Language Learning initiative, supported by Yayasan Hasanah through the Hasanah Special Grant (HSG 5.0) with funding of RM361,000, focuses on empowering underprivileged secondary students at SMK Langkawi on Pulau Tuba, Langkawi. Through a series of structured sessions, the programme integrates CEFR-aligned English language development with resilience building, cultural immersion, identity development, and foundational social entrepreneurship.

Drawing on experiential learning approaches and sociocultural principles, the initiative has successfully nurtured confidence, entrepreneurial thinking and personal growth among youths in resource-limited environments, while also instilling values of ethical character and long-term societal contribution.

The internships secured by the student leaders represent a natural extension of the programme’s holistic developmental approach:

  • At Yayasan Hasanah, Ms. Siti Nurul Aulia leverages her interdisciplinary background to initiatives related to education, community empowerment, and sustainable development, areas closely aligned with the foundation’s mission and her earlier experience as a community mentor.
  • At Teleport, Ms. Sofia applies her combined expertise in linguistics and business to support logistics operations that enhance e-commerce connectivity across Southeast Asia. Reflecting on her experience, she noted that the internship has revealed logistics to be far more than the movement of parcels, serving instead as a vital conduit that connects economies, communities and individuals.
  • Meanwhile at Hilti Asia IT Services, Ms. Siti Aisyah will gain valuable exposure to global indirect procurement, contributing to strategic sourcing, process optimisation, and cross-functional initiatives within a leading construction technology group.

These opportunities highlight the effectiveness of integrated, community-oriented education in preparing young talents for meaningful careers across philanthropic organisations, innovative logistics industries and global corporate environments.

The programme organisers also expressed their appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia for his steadfast institutional support, as well as to the programme mentors for their invaluable guidance. Special recognition is also extended to UUM Leads Sdn. Bhd., the signatory partner of the Hasanah Special Grant, along with the Student Entrepreneurship Development Centre (PPKS), and the Co-operative and Entrepreneurship Development Institute (CEDI) for their important roles in supporting programme implementation and student development.

Yayasan Hasanah, AirAsia Group, and Hilti Group remain committed to fostering youth development and inclusive progress in Malaysia. The achievements of Ms. Siti Nurul Aulia Abdul Malek, Ms. Sofia Natasyah Saparin, and Ms. Siti Aisyah underscore the transformative potential of purpose-driven educational initiatives in shaping principled, adaptable professionals who contribute meaningfully to society and the broader economic landscape. – Fatin Athirah Fadzillah and Muhammad Ishaq Hajah Alavudin
