From Classroom To Capital Market: Six UUM academics attend Bursa Malaysia’s National Investment Programme (NIP)

KUALA LUMPUR, 23 July 2026: Six lecturers from the School of Economics, Finance and Banking, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), recently completed Bursa Malaysia’s National Investment Programme (NIP), a structured financial and investment literacy initiative designed to empower B40 and M40 Malaysians with fundamental and technical knowledge of capital market investing.

The participating academics were Associate Professor Dr Nur Hafizah Mohammad Ismail, Professor Dr Wong Woei Chyuan, Dr Diara Md. Jadi, Associate Professor Dr Shazida Jan Mohd Khan, Associate Professor Dr Logasvathi Murugiah, and Dr Mai Syaheera Miau Shaari. Their participation in the programme was fully sponsored by Bursa Malaysia.

Held at Bursa Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, the programme was conducted over three consecutive weekends, with training sessions taking place every Saturday and Sunday, comprising a total of six days of intensive learning. Participants were exposed to a broad range of topics, including personal budgeting, scam awareness and capital market investing.

The two-tier programme combined theoretical instruction with market-based simulations and interactive case studies to strengthen participants’ understanding of personal finance and investment principles. It also equipped them with the knowledge and practical skills to apply key financial concepts, analyse market behaviour, assess investment risks, and make informed financial decisions in a structured learning environment.

Commenting on the initiative, the Chairman of Bursa Malaysia, Tan Sri Abdul Farid bin Alias, said that the National Investment Programme was introduced in conjunction with Bursa Malaysia’s 50th anniversary to make the capital market more accessible to all Malaysians.

He added that the programme seeks to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to participate meaningfully in investment opportunities while making informed financial decisions.

The participation of the six UUM academics reflects the growing collaboration between higher education institutions and Bursa Malaysia in advancing investor education and promoting financial literacy.

By equipping educators with industry-relevant knowledge and practical insights, the programme enables them to enrich teaching and learning while serving as catalysts for greater financial awareness within the wider community.
