SINTOK, 12 March 2026: The Tunas Hijau Committee Meeting for the 2.2 Million Tree Planting Project was held at the Senate Meeting Room, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), with the aim of strengthening the implementation of the tree planting initiative and ensuring that every tree planted is systematically recorded through the official website of the Kedah State Council of Dato’ (Pejabat Jemaah Dato’ Negeri Kedah).

The meeting was chaired by Tunas Hijau Chairman, Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Salleh Din, and focused on coordinating the implementation of tree planting activities across the state of Kedah, particularly in terms of registration and monitoring of planted trees.

Discussion also emphasised the importance of ensuring that all agencies, institutions and parties involved register every tree planted on the official website of the Kedah State Council of Dato’, so that records remain organised, transparent and easily monitored.

This initiative is crucial to ensure that all trees planted are properly documented in a systematic manner, while also enabling continuous monitoring of their growth and condition in each district.

During the meeting, members also discussed efforts to intensify tree planting activities in areas that have been degraded, encroached upon or polluted, as part of the wider initiatives to restore the natural ecosystem.

In addition, the programme will continue to focus on mangrove areas in several districts across Kedah, including Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Langkawi, Baling as well as other potential locations, in order to safeguard the sustainability of coastal zones and natural habitats.

The tree planting programme forms part of broader environmental conservation efforts in Kedah, which have also received the attention and support of His Royal Highness Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, who previously consented to launch the Two Million Tree Planting Project in the state.

Also present at the meeting were Dato’ Seri Setia Diraja Dato’ Paduka Haji Bakar Din, the Dato’ Pengelola Bijaya Diraja Kedah, and UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed.
