Knowledge, Integrity, and Innovation: The Hallmarks of UUM Graduates’ Excellence
SINTOK, 12 November 2025 — “Knowledge, Integrity, Innovation: The Core of UUM Graduate Excellence” is not merely a series of eloquent words, but a living philosophy that defines the spirit of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), a spirit dedicated to nurturing a generation of future leaders who are intelligent, principled, and guided by strong human values.
In his address during the seventh session of the 38th Convocation Ceremony this afternoon, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan underscored that knowledge is the torch that lights the path to the future and the foundation upon which a nation’s progress is built.
He remarked that since its establishment in 1984, UUM has remained steadfast in its mission as Malaysia’s Eminent Management University, contributing to educational excellence in both national and regional contexts.
“Knowledge is the key to progress. Countries such as China, South Korea, and Singapore have demonstrated that national success begins with the strength of their universities — institutions that advance knowledge and drive innovation,” he said.
Prof. Dr. Mohd Foad went on to emphasize that integrity is the moral compass that shapes the character of UUM students. At UUM, he said, integrity is not a mere slogan, but a core value embedded in teaching, learning, and campus life.
“The Integrity and Anti-Corruption Course (KIAR) serves as a foundational subject designed to cultivate noble character and produce graduates who are honest, ethical, and pure in spirit.
A knowledgeable graduate without integrity is like a ship without a compass — adrift and directionless in the vast ocean of life,” he reminded.
As the world embraces the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0), UUM continues to strengthen its innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem through various transformative initiatives.
Through the Innovation and Commercialization Centre (ICC), more than 200 projects by students and staff have been nurtured since 2019, progressing from creative concepts to patent-worthy and commercially viable innovations.
This holistic approach — rooted in knowledge, integrity, and innovation — continues to propel UUM toward its vision of producing not only academically excellent graduates, but also visionary leaders who contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.
During the ceremony this afternoon, a total of 981 graduates received their degrees in a range of disciplines, including Bachelor of Law, Bachelor of Philosophy, Law and Business, Bachelor of Public Management, Bachelor of Development Management, Bachelor of International Affairs Management, Bachelor of International Business Management, Bachelor of Business Administration (Logistics and Transportation) – Dual Degree, Bachelor of Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Tourism Management, and Bachelor of Event Management.
