PERODUA CHOOSES UUM FOR INASIS REBRANDING BASED ON UNIVERSITY’S STRONG REPUTATION

SINTOK, 19 May 2026 – The former Petronas Student Residential Hall (Inasis) at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has officially been rebranded as Inasis Perodua following a strategic collaboration between the university and Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn. Bhd. (Perodua).

The inauguration ceremony for Inasis Perodua was officiated by Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, who said that UUM was selected as a strategic partner based on its strong reputation and impressive achievements as one of the leading universities in Asia.

According to him, UUM’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, research, and student development has given Perodua the confidence to collaborate with the university in nurturing competent graduates who are well-equipped to meet the demands and challenges of the professional world.

“This sponsorship of Inasis Perodua reflects our commitment to contributing to the development and well-being of UUM students. A residential college is not merely a place to stay, but a second home where students shape their future, build character, and cultivate independence,” he said.

He also reaffirmed Perodua’s commitment to supporting UUM students by providing quality facilities and a conducive living environment that would allow them to focus on their studies without concerns over accommodation and welfare.

Meanwhile, UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, described the collaboration as a meaningful initiative that would further enhance services and facilities for students as well as the wider university community. He revealed that Perodua had agreed to provide sponsorship amounting to RM350,000 over a five-year period until March 2030.

“This rebranding gives the Inasis a stronger and more distinguished identity. The entire UUM community is deeply honoured by the presence and support shown by Perodua’s top leadership in making this initiative a success alongside our students.

“We hope this strong collaboration will continue to flourish, as it brings significant benefits not only to the university, but most importantly to our students,” he said.

In conjunction with the Inasis Perodua branding initiative, Perodua also provided five vehicles to facilitate a rental car service for students through the P-Circle application.

The company further agreed to provide an additional 20 rental vehicles in phases for students and campus residents in the future, offering a safer, more convenient, and systematic transportation alternative compared to conventional taxi services.

Commenting further, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised that close collaboration between public universities and industry players remains one of the key strategies championed by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia in supporting national development and strengthening graduate employability.

Through the rebranding of Inasis Perodua, UUM also aims to further strengthen its strategic partnership with the nation’s leading automotive company by creating more opportunities for collaborative programmes and initiatives that would benefit students and the university community.

UUM and Perodua previously signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in April at Perodua’s headquarters in Sungai Choh, Rawang, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance services and facilities for the campus community.
