UUM and UiTM Strengthen Commitment to Advance Library and Information Science

SINTOK, 5 October 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Kedah branch have demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing the fields of library and information science through the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in conjunction with the 7th International Innovation and Design in Library and Information Science (InDeLib 2025).

The signing ceremony, held at Visitors’ Lounge, was officiated by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan and the Rector of UiTM Kedah Branch, Prof. Dr Roshima Said.

Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan expressed his appreciation to UiTM, particularly the Faculty of Information Science, UiTM Kedah Branch, for serving as the main organiser of InDeLib 2025, and to the Sultanah Bahiyah Library (PSB) for representing UUM as the strategic partner in this MoA.

He emphasised that the MoA was not merely symbolic, but rather a demonstration of the commitment of both institutions in empowering the disciplines of library and information science through innovative and collaborative approaches.

“This MoA aims to forge a strong partnership between UiTM and UUM, with a particular emphasis on the joint organisation of InDeLib 2025. It also covers aspects of planning, implementation, promotion and programme evaluation.

“According to the agreement, UiTM will serve as the Lead Institution, while UUM will act as the Co-organiser,” he said.

Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan added that this strategic partnership is expected to further strengthen academic relations while expanding research and innovation networks between the two universities.

“I believe this collaboration will not only elevate the image of UUM and UiTM, but also offer participants with a valuable experience and broaden academic and industry networks at both national and international levels,” he added.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr Roshima Said conveyed her appreciation to UUM for its unwavering support in ensuring the success of InDeLib 2025, describing it as a testament to the solid cooperation between the two public universities.

She noted that the programme brings together scholars, researchers and students in the field of library and information science under the theme “Enabling Knowledge-Driven Communities through Intelligent Technology”.

“This prestigious event aims to inspire innovation and creativity in the fields of social sciences and technology. It also provides a valuable platform for researchers, innovators, organisations and students at various levels to showcase their visionary ideas and designs,” she explained.

Prof. Dr Roshima Said further expressed hope that the MoA will serve as a catalyst for shared success and pave the way for wider collaboration in the future.

Also present at the ceremony were UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed; UiTM Kedah Branch Deputy Rector (Research, Industrial Linkages, Community and Alumni Division), Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohd Rizaimy Shaharudin; UUM Chief Librarian, Prof. Dr Che Azlan Taib and senior officials from both universities.
