UUM Committed to Strengthening Digitalisation, Sustainability and Well-being of the Campus Community
SINTOK, 7 July 2026: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) continues to strengthen the institutional transformation agenda through the implementation of various strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing campus excellence, digitalisation and sustainability.
UUM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, said that the university remains committed to implementing a comprehensive transformation agenda to reinforce institutional excellence in line with its aspiration of becoming a progressive, competitive, and sustainable management university.
According to him, the university’s key priorities include accelerating digital transformation, strengthening campus sustainability and promoting environmental conservation through the implementation of a range of high-impact initiatives.
“This effort is not only aimed at enhancing the university’s service delivery system, but also at creating a greener, more efficient, safer and more conducive campus environment for the entire UUM community,” he said.
He said this when officiating the launch of several strategic university initiatives including the Facial Recognition System, the rebranding of the Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) to Sintok Synergy Innovation (ISS), and the UUM Sustainability Campaign, which supports the state’s aspiration of planting two million trees in Kedah through the participation of all Centres of Authority (PTJ).
During the same event, the Vice-Chancellor also launched the UUM Occupational Safety and Health Policy and presented appointment letters to the Heads of the Public Sector Conducive Ecosystem (EKSA) Zones, reflecting the university’s commitment to strengthening governance, promoting a safe workplace culture and enhancing excellence in university management.
At the same juncture, Professor Ahmad Martadha also presented prizes to the winners of the UUM 2026 Staff Games, with the Kenari Contingent emerging as the overall champion and best contingent after securing 11 gold medals, eight silver medals and three bronze medals.
He noted that the staff games serve as an important platform for strengthening camaraderie, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and fostering stronger relationships among members of the university community.
In conjunction with the programme, the UUM 2026 Staff Games Trail Run, featuring three-kilometre and six-kilometre categories, was also organised to encourage staff to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle.
The event also featured the 1 000 Tree Planting Programme under the UUM Sustainability Campaign, which saw the participation of members of the University Management Committee (JPU). The initiative symbolises the university’s commitment to advancing its campus sustainability agenda and preserving the environment for the well-being of future generations.
