SINTOK, 9 March 2025 – The UUM Grand Iftar 2025/1446H served not merely as occasion to break fast, but also a symbol of unity and harmony among the university community. The gathering aimed to further strengthen bonds, encourage self-improvement, and allow attendees to experience the beauty of Ramadan together.
The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, urged everyone to make the most of this blessed month by increasing acts of worship, drawing closer to Allah, and reinforcing relationships with one another.
He emphasised that the gathering was held to celebrate the holiness of Ramadan while strengthening the camaraderie among UUM denizen, sharing in the responsibility of fasting, breaking fast together, and performing Tarawih prayers.
“Ramadan is a month replete with blessings and forgiveness. It is not just a time for worship but also the perfect opportunity to strengthen human connections, cultivate better character, and deepen our faith and devotion to Allah S.W.T.
“Ramadan serves as a training ground for managing emotions and anger, as negative emotions tend to intensify during fasting,” he stated.
He further highlighted that Ramadan teaches the values of moderation and compassion for those less fortunate.
“Islam encourages us to increase acts of charity and support those in need, such as the poor, orphans, and those facing hardship. Even the smallest act of generosity can bring happiness to those less fortunate.
Let us seize this opportunity to give generously, ease the burdens of others, and gain the blessings promised by Allah S.W.T,” he expressed during the event at Masjid Sultan Badlishah, UUM.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed hope that this year’s Ramadan would bring blessings and strength to continue striving towards making UUM a leading institution of knowledge, not only in academics but also in personal development and spiritual values.
During the event, he also officiated the Ramadan Ihya Contribution Ceremony, where aid was distributed to students in need.
Guests were presented to Quranic recitations and an Islamic talk, adding to the spiritual atmosphere. As soon as the Maghrib call to prayer resonated, attendees enjoyed a delicious meal before proceeding to perform Maghrib and Tarawih prayers together.
