UUM jumps 114 places in QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026
SINTOK, 18 November 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has recorded a significant achievement, rising to 631st position out of 2,001 universities worldwide in the QS World University Ranking: Sustainability 2026. This marks an impressive leap of 114 places from its previous ranking of 745.
The QS World University Ranking: Sustainability 2026 evaluates institutions across three main categories namely environmental impact, social impact, and governance.
In the Social Impact category, UUM climbed to 611th position in the world compared to 781st in the previous edition, while in the Environmental Impact category, UUM has made significant progress, rising to 703rd position with an increase of 266 places. These represents a substantial increase, further demonstrating the effectiveness of the university’s social initiatives in strengthening equality, inclusion, and the well-being of the campus community and society at large.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan said this achievement reflects the university’s steadfast commitment to advancing the global sustainability agenda. He noted that this success not only acknowledges UUM’s ongoing efforts but also underscores its responsibility to further promote sustainable development and instill the values of sustainability among both staff and students.
According to him, UUM is on a strong trajectory to strengthen its contribution to sustainable development through innovative research, sustainable-focused education, and active community engagement.
“The university is committed to ensuring that future generations receive a comprehensive and meaningful education in sustainability, empowering them to drive positive change,” he said.
The QS World University Ranking: Sustainability 2026 provides an important platform for universities around the world to measure their impact in addressing global challenges. This aligns with UUM’s commitment to maintaining relevance and competitiveness on the international stage.
