SINTOK, 16 June 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) continues to strengthen its position as a competitive higher learning institution, having successfully retaining its Self-Accreditation Status granted by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).
This recognition follows UUM’s successful completion of the Self-Accreditation Status Compliance Consideration Audit conducted by MQA from 24 to 25 February 2025.
UUM was first awarded the Self-Accreditation status on 21 February 2017 and has successfully maintained it to date.
The certificate of recognition was presented to UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani and the Director of UUM Centre for Self-Accreditation, Assoc. Prof. Dr Zulkiflee Daud, signifying the University’s capability in meeting the criteria and standards set by the national accreditation agency to autonomously accredit its academic programme.
At the same ceremony, UUM also received two prestigious awards from Emerald Publishing in recognition of its outstanding achievements in scholarly publishing and academic resource utilisation throughout the year 2024.
The awards were presented by Prof. Dr Che Azlan Taib to Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, representing two key categories.
UUM secured third place in the High Research Output Award 2025, having produced 75 journal articles and books authored by 84 UUM researchers.
In addition, UUM was awarded third place in the High Usage Award 2025 under the Malaysian Public Institution category, recording a total of 127,128 article downloads over the course of 2024.
These accolades underscore UUM’s international recognition and continued commitment to strengthening a research-driven culture and promoting widespread use of academic resources among its denizens.
