UUM’s New JPRK Supreme Council Urged to Uphold Democratic Values on Campus

SINTOK, 26 October 2025: The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, has called on the Supreme Council of the Campus Election Committee (JPRK) for the 2025/2026 session to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to them with utmost dedication, integrity, and adherence to the principles of justice and transparency.

He made the call in his address during the Presentation of Letters of Appointment Ceremony for the Supreme Council of the Special Committee for the Election of the Supreme Council (JPRK) UUM 2025/2026 Session, held at the Visitors’ Lounge, Sultan Sallehuddin Chancellery Building, this morning.

At the same ceremony, JPRK also announced the official results of the election for the Supreme Council of JPRK UUM 2025/2026, which was conducted online on 21 October 2025 (Tuesday).

According to the committee’s official statement, a total of 81 registered student representatives participated in the voting process, with a voter turnout of 91.36 percent, equivalent to 74 voters. This, the statement noted, reflects the strong commitment of UUM students to democratic practices on campus.

The results, confirmed by the Special Election Committee (JPRK), saw the appointment of the following new leadership lineup for the 2025/2026 session:

Ms Haslinda binti Kamarudin – Chairman of the Supreme Council;

Mr Luqman Arief bin Azhar – Deputy Chairman;

Ms Nurain Syafiqah binti Muhamad Riadz – Secretary; and

Ms Nurfazreena Abady binti Zulkifli – Treasure

In his speech, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad emphasised that the appointment to the Supreme Council is not merely an honour but a profound trust that reflects the university’s confidence in the credibility and capability of the newly appointed leadership in upholding transparent, professional, and integrity-driven campus election management.

“This appointment is a responsibility that embodies the university’s faith in your ability to carry forward the legacy of transparent, professional and integrity-based campus election management,” he said.

He further reminded the newly appointed council members that the letter of appointment they received represents more than an administrative formality – it is a symbol of trust bestowed by both the university and the student community.

He added that this trust demands sincerity, wisdom, and firmness of principle, stressing that the leaders of JPRK must serve as role models to other students in terms of responsibility, discipline and ethical leadership.

“Safeguard the image of JPRK as a neutral and principled body that sets an example for your peers. Ensure that every decision is made transparently, responsibly, and guided by facts rather than emotions,” he urged.

The ceremony was also attended by Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni); Assoc. Prof. Dr Zainudin Omar, Dean of Student Affairs; and Mr. Muhammad Iskandar Zulkarnain bin Muhammad Suhaimi, Director of the Student Affairs Department.
