BEPPU, 24 April 2025: Driven by a shared vision of global connection and student empowerment, the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Chapter recently journeyed to Beppu, Japan, for a dynamic exchange with the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University Chapter. Held on 9 April 2025, the visit aimed to strengthen the ties between student chapters of both institutions while promoting mutual understanding, leadership and shared academic growth.
Organised under the theme “Bridging Borders Through Student Unity”, the visit aimed to foster enduring connections between student leaders, encourage intercultural dialogue, and pave the way for collaborative projects that transcend geographical boundaries and institutional boundaries.
A highlight of the visit was a mock lecture on international accounting, delivered by Professor Phillip Dean Pardo, Associate Dean, School of Management at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University. The lecture explored key concepts in international financial reporting and included real-world case studies, offering students from UUM valuable insights into global business practices and diverse teaching methodologies. This academic engagement broadened their perspective on accounting and underscored the value of cross-border knowledge exchange.
Beyond the academic activities, the visit also offered a valuable cultural component and marked the continuation of a relationship that began three years ago. The hosts at Risumeikan Asia Pacific University warmly welcomed the UUM delegation with hospitality, organising guided campus tours, local cultural experiences, and grouped meals that provided insights into Japanese traditions and everyday life.
As the program came to a close, both universities expressed interest in maintaining the collaboration, with potential plans for future student exchanges, joint events, and a virtual club alliance to encourage continued interaction. This international engagement highlights the BGS UUM Chapter’s ongoing efforts to broaden students’ perspectives and enhance campus engagement through international exposure and cross-cultural connections. – Wirdani Humaira Mohammad Ikram
