SOL Strengthens Academic Impact with New Journal and Bulletin Launch
SINTOK, 15 January 2025: The launch of the ASEAN Legal Insights and SOL ZONE Bulletin is anticipated to serve as a platform for academics to share information and act as a communication resource particularly related to the School.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan stated that this marks continued success and the collaborative efforts of SOL’s management and community in establishing a peer-reviewed journal at SOL level. This journal serves as a platform for disseminating publication of peer-reviewed articles, with its first issue successfully released online in December 2024.
According to him, the success of SOL began with the publication of a peer-reviewed legal journal known as the UUM Journal of Legal Studies (UUMJLS) which was further enhanced by dedicated efforts to elevate UUMJLS to Scopus status, ultimately establishing it as the university’s journal.
He expressed confidence that the ASEAN Legal Insights Journal and the SOL ZONE Bulletin would strengthen the identity of SOL among university staff, the local community, industry networks and society at large.
“This is because these two publications can be easily accessed through SOL website and Facebook portal. Congratulations and well done to the SOL staff for successfully developing two important initiatives that enhance the dissemination of knowledge in the field of law.
“This initiative not only underscores SOL’s continuous efforts to enhance understanding and knowledge in the legal field but also demonstrates SOL’s unwavering commitment to driving excellence in legal education in this country,” he said during the launching event held at the COLGIS Foyer.
The ASEAN Legal Insights Journal will be published annually in September, while the SOL ZONE Bulletin will be released twice a year
Meanwhile, UUM COLGIS Assistant Vice-Chancellor and Dean of SOL, Prof. Dr Harlida Abdul Wahab said that this event is not only significant for recognising SOL’s achievements but also demonstrates a commitment from all, especially academicians, to fostering a culture of research and publication as a key agenda in fulfilling the university’s broader goals.
According to her, the SOL ZONE Bulletin plays a major role as it serves not only as a platform to highlight the school’s developments and activities but also as a venue for the academic community to build relationships among faculty members, students, and external communities. She also mentioned that this serves as a two-way communication channel, facilitating the disseminating information while also documenting significant milestones and achievements at SOL.
“This bulletin serves as a platform to showcase yearly activities and invites academics to contribute short, contemporary writings aimed at advancing the understanding of legal matters within ASEAN.
“While this newly published journal represents a continuation of SOL’s accomplishments. We welcome creative and innovative ideas from colleagues who may encounter difficulties accessing Scopus-indexed journals, thus offering a dedicated platform for ASEAN-focused content,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the publication, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr Aspalella A. Rahman for the journal and Dr Muhammad Hafiz Badarulzaman for the bulletin.
Also present at the event were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Russayani Ismail; the Registrar, Mr. Ahmad Rasidi Abdullah; the Chief Librarian, Prof. Dr Che Azlan Taib; and other senior university officials.
