UUM Continues Its Rise, Secures Place Among Asia’s Top 125 in THE Asia University Rankings 2026
SINTOK, 23 April 2026: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has once again strengthened its recorded a proud achievement when it successfully improved its position to the top 125 in Asia in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2026, compared to 127th in the previous edition.
The advancement reflects UUM’s continued momentum in enhancing academic excellence and reinforcing its regional competitiveness.
This success also underscores UUM’s ability to maintain consistent upward performance within an increasingly competitive Asian higher education landscape, amid participation from more than 1,000 leading universities across the region.
The rise in ranking is the result of the university’s strategic and sustained efforts to strengthen the quality of teaching and learning, intensify research performance and expand its international engagement and collaborative networks.
Commenting on the achievement, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed described the achievement as a manifestation of the unwavering commitment demonstrated by the entire UUM campus community staff in advancing the university’s aspirations to become the Eminent Management University.
“It also attests to the effectiveness of the implementation of various strategic initiatives that focus on academic excellence, high-impact research production and strengthening of industry collaboration,” he said.
The THE Asia University Rankings 2026 assesses institutions based on 18 performance indicators across five main categories, namely teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.
This multidimensional assessment offers a comprehensive view of a university’s performance in various key dimensions.
UUM’s rise in ranking signals that the university remains firmly on course to broaden its global collaboration network, attract a more diverse pool of international students and academics, and further consolidate its role as a competitive centre of excellence on the international stage.
More significantly, this recognition serves as a catalyst for the university’s continued efforts to enhance its global visibility and reputation on the regional and global higher education landscape.
