SINTOK, 12 March 2025: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has achieved a significant milestone with its Education and Mathematics subjects making their debut in the QS World University Rankings (QSWUR) by Subjects 2025. The Education subject secured a position in the 301-330 range, while Mathematics secured the 501-600 position, as announced in an official statement at 6 p.m. (local time) yesterday.
Additionally, UUM’s Accounting and Finance subjects, have successfully maintained their position among the world’s top 151-200 bracket. Meanwhile, English Language and Literature subjects demonstrated commendable progress, achieving a position in the 251-300 bracket.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, highlighted that this achievement demonstrates UUM’s steadfast commitment to advancing its academic and research fields.
He attributed this success to key factors, including the memoranda of understanding and memoranda of agreement, which have enhanced strategic partnerships and ensured consistency in research publications.
“In addition, the increase in high-quality research activities, the organisation of international conferences, and the implementation of academic mobility programmes have also played a significant role in improving our position in this ranking,” he said.
This edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2025 evaluates higher education institutions across 55 specific fields, categorised into five main areas. The evaluation criteria include academic reputation, employer reputation, citations, H-Index publications and international research collaborations.
UUM has also earned ranking in other subjects in the QSWUR by Subject 2025, including Economics and Econometrics (251-300), Social Sciences & Management (274), Business and Management Studies (251-300), Arts & Humanities (501-550) and Computer Science and Information Systems (551-600).
This achievement reflects UUM’s commitment to fostering excellence in both academic and research endeavours, aligning with the its aspiration of establishing itself as a leading institution at the international level.
